Food Drive COLLECTION for Harvesters !
Why is English Landing hosting a Food Drive now?
I was asked this week why English Landing is hosting a Food Drive now becuase the timing might not be the best following Staff Appreciation Week last week. My immediate response was that the two topics are completely unrelated. Anytime is a good time to hold a Food Drive! The end of the school year is especially a good time becuase we know that food pantries see an increase in the demand from families needing to provide meals during the summer months that were provided at school.
This idea was initiated this spring when a student came to me and talked about his experience attending Harvesters with his dad. This experience really impacted him and he thought that it would impact other students too. While we aren't able to take a school wide field trip to Harvesters so every eagle is able to have this experience, we are able to duplicate this experience by having our own Food Drive here at English Landing. As this idea developed we knew to reach this goal of students participating in HELPING others that we needed to collect enough food so that each student at English Landing could create ONE Brown Sack Meal for a child or famliy in need or hungry. Is this a lot? Yes! However, we are ENGLISH LANDING! A quick reminder... since we are creating a Brown Sack Meal for Harvesters, each item that our students put in the bag needs to be individually packaged and ready to eat.
This focus of Eagles HELPING Eagles is what we foster at English Landing. With the school year being extended beyond the typical timeline due to 9 snow days this year the idea of creating experiences like this one helps too in continuing this focus throughout the month of May instead of having the focus on the school year ending.
THANK YOU in supporting this Food Drive!
Please don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions or comments. Thank you! Dr. Roe
Heartfelt Gesture: Eagles Helping Eagles!
Earlier this week, I walked by the Harvesters' Food Collection table and noticed this single fruit snack on top of the fruit cup collection area. I know that this was likely shared from a student's sack lunch. These are the heartfelt gestures that reinforce the importance of students having an opportunity to help others in need. Thanks! Dr. Roe

Celebrating Birthdays at English Landing!
Celebrating Student Birthdays: (Park Hill Parent/Student Handbook pages 37-38):
We are happy to celebrate student birthdays and half birthdays (if your child has a summer birthday) at English Landing! To protect the health and safety of our students, families may bring pre-packaged treats to school to share with classmates. In order to address any known allergy concerns, a label listing ingredients should be affixed to the package. Due to allergies and other food intolerances, please consult with your classroom teacher before the pre-packaged treats are brought to school. As a healthier alternative, Park Hill Food Service offers a variety of nutritious treats that may be purchased.
At English Landing we need your HELP! Many birthday treats arrive at the beginning of the school day which provides us time to review the class list regarding food allergies or food intolerances, however, many other birthday treats arrive during lunch and often right at the same time the treat needs to be distributed to students. PLEASE plan on arriving earlier for lunch (at least 15 minutes) to give us time to check the pre-packaged treat ingredients with the students in the classroom who have food allergies or food intolerances. Our school nurse, Mrs. Kimbrel, and office staff, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Wood, or Mrs. Steczak, will help with this process so when the lunchroom staff teachers distribute the treat in the cafeteria, additional steps have been taken to ensure we are protecting the health and safety of our eagles.
