What is this?
Brief Philosophy
Our Focus on Digital Literacy, Citizenship and Self-Regulation
In keeping with our push toward preparing our kids with the skills to operate in their futures, I keep coming back to their need for guidance and practice. We are teachers in a school... what better place for them to learn? I will agree, cell phones can be a nuisance! I am also convinced that we can help students manage themselves in productive ways.
It starts with engagement. In talking with some of our Wildcats. When they are engaged or know that the teacher provides meaningful learning opportunities during class, their cell phones are out of mind and better yet, when technology is needed, they are able to use it for a real purpose, something they can show off and which they can be proud.
Time and Place will be a term you might hear a lot from me. Teaching students the right time and place for their cell phone usage will be a great place to start, a good thing to remind them frequently and hold them accountable to. We have kids that can and will be able to learn this important skill.

Culturize
Looking forward to discussing these concepts covered in our book:
- Seeing our kids as people.
- Being a champion for students, and learning their needs and barriers to success.
- Expecting excellence from ourselves, our fellow teachers, and our kids.
- Importance of being an Awesomizer vs. an Awfulizer.
- Continuing to believe in what we do for kids.
Our teachers already have the book and will use those to kick off our book study, and then we will pass those off to our classified staff who we would also love to take part in great conversations around culture and kids.
