Return To School For Second Semester - In-person Students

The second semester begins next Monday, February 1st. We are excited to welcome back more in-person students! If your child is returning to Silver Springs for the first time this school year, please Click Here for information about student arrival/dismissal and COVID-19 safety protocols. This document is full of very important information including helpful videos, so please take some time to review it and let us know if you have any questions.

2nd Semester Humanities Changes

This school-year in order to accommodate both virtual and in-person learners, some changes needed to be made in our humanities (art, music, physical education, world language) schedule. During the SECOND semester (through the end of the school year) in-person learners will be receiving PE, Music and Art. All students will receive 2 PE classes, 1 music class, and one Art class per week. All K-2 will receive one additional Art class and all 3-5 students will receive an additional Music class. This new schedule will begin Monday, February 1st.

This change does not impact 100% online students. Fully online students will receive live, synchronous lessons in PE, Music, Spanish, and Art, more information to come soon!

Cold Weather Gear

Please make sure to send cold-weather gear with your student to school everyday. We go outside for recess when the temperature is above 0 degrees, even when there is snow and slush on the ground.

This year, it is even more important to make sure that students bring boots, hats, snow pants, and gloves because each cohort has an assigned area on the playground during recess and they must stay in that area.

Boots and snow pants help keep shoes and pants from getting wet, cold and muddy.

"Can" You Donate?

Please see the information below from our Student Lighthouse Team. They have organized a canned food drive for Civic Concern.

The food drive will run from February 1st through February 12th.

Shout out to Katelyn W. and Sophia J. for designing the posters!

Supporting the 7 Habits at home!

January At Home Activity

This month’s Habit: Habit 2 Begin With the End in Mind

Activity: Collage and Family Mission Statement

Due Date: January 29th

Please see attached activities below. We would love to have you share your Family Mission Statement with us by January 29th, so we can proudly display our families practicing the 7-Habits at home!

Habit #2 Begin with the End in Mind- "I have a plan"

What this means: Have a mission, a clear sense of where you want to go. Think about the end first- how are you going to get there?

“I plan ahead and set goals.”

“I do things that have meaning and make a difference”

“I am important part of my classroom.”

“I look for ways to be a good citizen.”

How can I do this in my life?

1. Write down your goals. It is said that "A goal not written is only a wish.”

2. Lay out your clothes for tomorrow the night before.

3. Write down 3 goals you want to accomplish.

Great Books for Habit #2 - Begin With the End in Mind

  • The BFG by Roald Dahl
  • When I Grow Up by Sean Covey
  • Click Clack Moo Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin
  • Little Bunny on the Move by Peter McCarty
  • The School Story by Andrew Clements
  • Too Many Tamales by Gary Soto
  • Plant a Kiss by Amy Krouse

New from the Northville Youth Network

The Wayne County Health Department has updated the COVID-19 Daily Symptom Screening Tool STUDENT (1.8.2021) to reflect the reflect the importance of not sending a child to school with a fever over 100.3 F with or without other symptoms and the CDC recommendation of a 10 day quarantine period for those without symptoms that are identified as close contacts to a positive COVID-19 case. It is important to continue to closely monitor your child for symptoms using this updated screener tool prior to sending your child to school. This continued effort by all parents will allow us to maintain a safe environment for all students and staff and support our ability to provide continued in-person learning for all students.
