Wilson Ranger Ranch
That being said, I want all of you to integrate at least one activity that takes your class outside to use the garden in the next two weeks! For those of you who just screamed a little, fear not. Please ask Carol for ideas...Janet would also love to help you...just reach out and ask. We also have the RSG site with many ideas...

Once you have decided what your group will do, send your supervisor an email so we can go out there and join in on the fun.
I would also like to mention that our PTO is about to make a very significant investment in our outdoor learning environment. We should see the fruits of their labor by the end of February. These are indeed exciting times at Wilson.

MOY Screener Information from Heather Cato and Mary Kemper
ELA
MOY Assessments Elementary/Middle School
The MOY testing window is quickly approaching. According to the District Assessment Calendar, the Middle of Year Assessment window is from Jan 20 – Feb 10. Several have asked about the timing of this window. Originally this window was set in order to accommodate the window set by the state for the math universal screener that we had intended on using.
Should educators want to conduct a DRA2 assessment or Istation before this window, there is no problem in doing so.
Please remind educators:
- 1. All learners should participate in the MOY assessments. (This is a change. In the past it was only at risk learners.)
- 2. A testing environment should be established when administering both the DRA2 and the Istation assessment. Educators should actively monitor their learners.
- 3. While a learner’s DRA2 score may be taken into consideration when reporting to parents on the Standards Based Report Card, no score, should be derived from a single data point.
Istation Correlation to STAAR
In the next two weeks Istation will release an updated Predictability Study of ISIP Reading and STAAR Reading: Prediction Bands. Once it is approved we will be pushing the updated version onto our studies page (http://www.istation.com/Studies)
Math
Grades 3 – 5 Mathematics Universal Screeners (MOY): Please see the Intervention Services Public Folder for information about the new CISD-Created Universal Screeners for grades 3 – 5 mathematics. The assessments are finalized and ready to implement in classrooms later this month. Educators should make copies of the assessments for use with their students. Spanish versions are available.

Resource information from Mrs. Marshall
Wilson Educators,
We have been invited to participate in a trial of Britannica’s ImageQuest from now until April 15, 2016. The Texas State Library is considering adding this to our TexQuest databases, and it is AWESOME, so please take a look.
What is ImageQuest? ImageQuest provides nearly 3 million rights-cleared images from over 45 of the best collections in the world. Ideal for homework, school projects, and lessons. Image Quest is integrated with Britannica School. When doing a search, you will notice in the right corner: Try your search in Image Quest.
Go to: http://quest.eb.com

Also, check out the Educator’s Resources at http://info.eb.com.
Alicia Montgomery made this screencast for Town Center, but our information is basically the same, so please view the short video about how to access Image Quest. We want all our learners to be accessing and using copyright-free images, NOT GOOGLE, and this incredible resource does just that for you. Over 3 million images are included in the database.
If you use ImageQuest, please, please add a short comment onto this Google Form that I will be sharing with the Texas State Library to convince them to get this for us for next year! https://docs.google.com/a/g.coppellisd.com/forms/d/1tmLzxRkdBtXJrFJDIBoeLfJNos1q4USJNhzfVBWweuY/viewform?usp=send_form
Science from Linda Cook
Math Vocabulary from Mary Kemper
In response to the CISD State and Federal System Safeguards, the following action steps were developed through the TAIS Process:
- Identify and inform 3-12 educators of academic vocabulary aligned to math and science STAAR and TEKS.
- Train Special Education and General Education educators on the integration of academic vocabulary strategies in math and science lesson design.
A professional learning opportunity is available for all mathematics educators within the Schoology platform to meet these requirements. Educators should enroll in the Academic Vocabulary in Mathematics Lesson Design course in Eduphoria/Workshop. At that time, they will be given the Access Code to enroll in the course in Schoology. The deadline to complete all 6 steps in the Schoology course is May 9, to align with the conclusion of the spring STAAR testing.
If campus TAIS Process resulted in similar action steps, principals may speak with Mary Kemper to coordinate implementation plans.

Curriculum Audit Information from the Curriculum Department
Dear Educators,
Coppell ISD is having a curriculum audit completed by the TASA Curriculum Management Audit team. This will be a comprehensive audit of language arts, math, social studies, and science curriculum documents that support academic programming. The audit team is composed of individuals outside our district and area who are taking an all-inclusive look at our curriculum getting input from stakeholders. In addition to educator input via this brief survey, the auditors will be soliciting additional input in an “open” group interview being scheduled by the district. This group educator interview will be held on February 1st, from 4:00-4:45 in the CISD Board Room. If you are interested in participating in this group, please email ptramel@coppellisd.com. The survey attached does have an opportunity for open comments for general input in addition to the questions asked in the survey. Please complete the survey by January 25. We look forward to your input as we continuously work to improve our curriculum in CISD!
Thank you,
