Notes from Administration
- Keep your child home if he/she is experiencing a fever (over 100 degrees), vomiting, or diarrhea.
- Please do not send your child back to school until he/she is free from these symptoms for 24 hours after being sick.
- Encourage hand washing to minimize the spread of germs.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
Jump Rope for Heart is coming back to Whittier Elementary! Your student will become a Heart Hero by taking care of his/her own heart, spreading the message of the American Heart Association and raising funds for lifesaving research.
Have your student jump online at heart.org/jump to take one of our three health challenges, send emails and ask for donations. ANY STUDENT WHO GOES ONLINE AND TAKES THE CHALLENGE GETS A GLOW IN THE DARK WRISTBAND. ANY STUDENT WHO GETS A DONATION WILL BE RECOGNIZED AND RECEIVE A CARABINER.

Mardi Gras Event is fast approaching. Grade level teams are selecting basket themes this week. Once grade levels have determined their themes, we will be asking for donations for the baskets which will be raffled off at the Mardi Gras event on Friday February 9th. FCPS Magnet Program Information
The Magnet Program is designed for academically gifted students in Grades 3 โ 5 with superior performance in both language arts and mathematics. Nomination booklets are now available and may be obtained from the school office, the FCPS Office of Advanced Academics or online at http://www.fcps.org/advacademics. The Office of Advanced Academics is now accepting nominations of present second through fourth grade students for possible placement in the magnet program for the 2018 - 2019 school year.
Students may be nominated for the magnet program by school staff, parents or jointly. Parents and teachers are encouraged to review information, including some characteristics of gifted students that is posted at http://www.fcps.org/advacademics. Teacher nominations, parent nominations and a completed Parent/Guardian Rating Form are due in the school office by March 1, 2018, so that tests can be administered and information required to complete the nomination packet may be gathered by school staff.
