Spring 2019 Innovative Educator Grants
A number of teachers throughout the district were recently surprised – with cash!
The Springfield Education Foundation awarded a total of $32,000, broken up into 19 different grants this spring. It was the second round of grants that were given out this school year, and teachers were elated to receive the funding.
Each year, teachers apply for Springfield Education Foundation’s Innovative Educator Grants, which recognize and encourage innovative teaching programs within Springfield Public Schools.
Grants are awarded to programs that align with SEF's efforts to increase student participation, reach underserved populations, increase attendance, improve graduation rates and promote career opportunities and college connections.
The grants are read by a committee of volunteers through a blind application and review process. Each one-time grant ranges from $250 to $3,000.

Springfield School Board announces board vacancy following board member resignation
Karen Hunter, who was elected to the board serve on the Springfield School Board in the May 21 Lane County special election, will not actually be sworn in to complete the remaining two years of the Position 5 seat.
That's because Hunter and her family will be moving to Georgia to support her husband's career advancement. Hunter learned of the unexpected change shortly after the election. The board position to which she was elected expires June 30, 2021.
Springfield School Board Chair Zach Bessett at a board meeting Monday officially announced the Position 5 vacancy.
