What is One Simple Change
Why do we need to make One Simple Change?
Before we even begin, we need to talk about why we need more whole food, exercise, water, and more rest/less stress.
The reality is that we are living in the midst of an ever-growing global health crisis. In our very own country, the Standard American Diet (SAD) consists mainly of the 3 “P’s”: processed, packaged and preserved. “Fake food.” Food with no life or vitality. Food that can sit on a shelf for months and not change in chemistry or structure.
Life is busy. Often times, too busy to eat well. Unfortunately, that mindset is catching up with us… and not in a good way. Our waistlines are expanding. Disease is growing at alarming rates. Our children don’t have a taste for “real” food - they want what comes out of a box. The perception is that organic or healthy food is expensive. Well, so is disease. And even when we do buy good food, most of the time, our “good intentions” rot at the bottom of our produce drawer in the refrigerator.
If these current trends continue, not only are we in trouble, but so are our children. Take a look at the statistics below.
Whole Food
I know the statistics are shocking. They actually still make me mad today! But they were the wake-up call I needed to get fed up enough to move into action. I’ll share more about what happened later, but for now, let me just shout: THERE IS HOPE!!!
Let’s start with whole food, which is one area of the Core 4. We all know that we need to do better when it comes to whole food. When we know better, we do better. Everywhere I turned, every article I read, only confirmed: nutrition is the foundation upon that which health is built. Everything we put in our bodies does one of two things: it either helps or harms our immune systems.
That is why, so many doctors, health professionals, dietitians and nutritionists will tell you: eat more produce. More fruits and vegetables. More colors of the rainbow on our plates. But why? What is so important about fruits and vegetables?
Dr. Richard Dubois, former Chief of Internal Medicine, (Atlanta Medical Center) says, “fruits and vegetables are not only good for you, they are so good for you that they just might save your life.” Fruits and veggies are our best line of defense against disease.
The challenge for all of us is making this information come to fruition in our daily lives.
Exercize
Exercise is another area of the Core 4. Most people don’t succeed with exercise because they make it too complicated. The BEST exercise is the one you’ll do. If that means doing lunges to the mailbox, playing outside with your kids, attending a group fitness class with friends who hold you accountable, signing up to walk or run a race, or working out on your own… just remember, anything is better than zero!
Exercise is proven to reduce the risk of disease. Remember those statistics I shared early? Partner exercise with nutrition and you can flip the switch on your health.
Water
The 3rd area we will focus on as part of the Core 4 is water. So let me ask you, what have you had to drink today? It’s so important to understand that our muscles are made up of water and protein. We often think about the foods we eat, but sometimes forget about the beverages we consume. Water is responsible for transporting needed nutrients to the body’s cells and transporting waste out. When a person does not drink enough water daily his or her body will tend to save it. We call this water weight. It occurs when the body stores more water than is necessary.
Even though soft drinks contain water, keep in mind that most also contain caffeine which actually dehydrates the body. In fact, any drink that contains caffeine will act as a diuretic.
You can see in the image that dehydration is a dangerous thing. Does anyone know how much water you should consume daily?
More Sleep/Less Sleep
It’s extremely important that we get enough sleep each night and that we find ways to reduce stress. This area of the Core 4 is just as important as all of the others.
Stress can actually cause disease! And when it comes to sleep, we need sleep so our bodies can heal. Rest is part of the program! When you think about your muscles, the reality is that they are torn in the gym, fed in the kitchen, and grown in the bed.
The First Step
Now that you have a better understanding of the importance of One Simple Change and the Core 4 areas, let me explain a bit more about why Juice Plus+ provides a solid foundation and why it is the first step to take.
