Go for the Gold in the Reading Olympics!
I always say that GES truly cultivates a culture of literacy. Our library is a gem, and the students love visiting weekly and reading with Ms. Dee. We are excited to kick off our 2018 Reading Olympics, and I am encouraging everyone—parents, teachers, and students—to read widely. Our challenge is to read books from 5 different genres. Sharing and reading lots of varied books introduces readers to different vocabulary, pictures, and perspectives. In the long run, understanding that writing is created by the author for a certain purpose enhances students’ comprehension and cognitive skills as they begin to recognize features unique to different types of texts. My first book choice is The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. What’s yours?
