ESS Weekly Family Update
Week ending 6/2/23
Update from Mrs. Weber
New Business:
The students continue to work very hard on their NWEA-the scores show excellent growth. The 4th grade had a fun trip to Perry Hill to see where they will be headed in the Fall. Exciting times for them.
Please be sure you have sent back the slip if you are dismissing your child early after the music performances on June 12th. Only those with a prior note sent in will be allowed to leave early.
If you are picking up your child prior to dismissal and you choose not to send in a note, please be patient while we locate your child. There are so many changes in schedules this time of year and getting upset with the office staff while we locate your child is unnecessary.
Even if you let your child's teacher know, BOTH secretaries need to be informed in case someone is out for any change of dismissal.
Old Business:
Field Day will be on Friday June 9. Students MUST wear sneakers that day-they will NOT be able to participate if they have crocs or slides on.
On Field Day, I would recommend sending your child with a hat, a water bottle with their name on it, a beach towel to sit on, and sunscreen. I would also recommend sending in a change of clothes or shirt since there are water games that students will participate in.
Students will be outside for the day. Sunscreen must be applied at home or by the student-staff will not apply sunscreen
Only parents who have already signed up to volunteer will be allowed to attend field day-your assignment letters will be sent home for Field Day. Spectators and siblings are not allowed.
If you are taking photos or video at field day or at the spring concert, please keep in mind student privacy issues. Please do not post children who are not yours on any social media platforms.
Our school is not air conditioned. Please dress your child for the warmth in the building and going outside. Students will be asked to remove heavy winter clothing so that they do not overheat.
TRAFFIC REMINDER--ALL traffic must flow one way mornings and afternoons! You enter through Soundview and exit through Willoughby. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated to keep everyone safe
We will not accept any changes in dismissal after 2:45-there are no exceptions to this policy. This is for the safety of your child-changes made that late often are not communicated accurately. Thank you for your help with this.
Parents should NOT be parking in the fire lanes along the back parking lot at pick up-it is against fire code to do so. If you do not do the pick up, please let the people know who do so. I still have multiple cars parking there each day
Parents should not be parking so that you are blocking in any other cars, especially if you are staying and allowing your children to play. Staff cars should not be blocked at any time. There are plenty of spaces along the top row to park.
If you have plans to move before the start of the new school year, please email Mrs. Quinlan (dquinlan@sheltonpublicschools.org) This helps us in making class lists. The staff and I devote much time and thought when placing your child in a class. Parental requests for specific teacher placements will not be considered; however, if there are any special circumstances or consideration regarding class placement, please notify me via email
Please be sure children are sent with appropriate footwear. We have had several students injured on the playground running in crocs and flip flops. Flip flops, slides, slippers and crocs without back straps are dangerous and not allowed to be worn at school. If your child does not have a back strap on their crocs, they are not allowed to be wearing them at school and will not be able to participate in running around at recess.
We are continuing to have parents walk into the nurse's room without permission. If you are here at school volunteering or reading to classrooms, you may not go into the nurse's office without checking in at the office first or having a scheduled appointment. We have students with complex medical needs that require privacy and having unexpected people in the office violates that. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation with this matter.
Have a great weekend--enjoy the Weekend
