Our Schools
August 31, 2022
Our hearts are still full from the first week of school. We were so happy to welcome our students back last week. The smiles and enthusiasm were awesome - let's make this the best year yet! And be sure to follow us on Instagram as we bring you exclusive stories and other content from across the district.
Teacher wins award from the American Heart Association
Congratulations to Justine Fields, a PE teacher at Bristol Elementary, who was recently awarded the Heartie Loyalty Award from the American Heart Association for her work with the Kids Heart Challenge. Thank you to Justine, as well as Avery PE teachers John Bonham and Tim Velton who were also nominees. WGSD is lucky to have you!
The first late start day is Monday, September 12
Beginning this year, we have added late start days to the school calendar. The district’s first K-12 late start is Monday, September 12. Adjusted late start times are as follows (please note that preschool does not utilize late starts and will begin at normal times):
K-5: 9:05 a.m.
6-12: 9:40 a.m.
Late start days allow for additional time for teachers to use data and collaborate so that we can address the needs of all of our students.
WGSD provides free supervision to students who need this service. Supervision begins at 7:40 a.m. for K-5 and 8:15 a.m. for grades 6-12. Elementary students in need of care should arrive between 7:40 a.m. - 7:50 a.m. Middle school students in need of care should arrive between 8:15 a.m. - 8:25 a.m. If your family is in need of care, please contact your school. Learn more about late starts here.
Girls tennis wins tournament

It's not just about football. On Friday nights in the fall, an entire school community comes together. The sights and sounds from under the lights in Webster. Watch here.
Voices with Vision
This all-star group made up of students in grades 6-10 performs its latest song. The group performed at the Whitaker Music Festival in Botanical Gardens this summer opening for five-time Top Ten Billboard Blues Artist Jeremiah Johnson. Hudson Elementary Music teacher Desmond Reichold leads the group. You're not going to want to miss this! Watch here.
Culture and Climate surveys
In continuation of our efforts to support the academic and personal well-being of each WGSD student, district surveys will be administered to students in grades 3-12, families, and staff. Surveys will solicit participants' perspectives about learning strategies, culture and climate, and experiences in the classroom and/or school.
The surveys will allow for students, families and staff to offer feedback specifically about school safety, their sense of belonging, teacher-student relationships, cultural awareness and diversity and inclusion.
