Welcome Back!
We hope that everyone has had a wonderful summer - we are looking forward to a great 2018/19 School Year!
Summer has been very busy at the school with hard hats and work crews inside and out! Our own Limestone Staff under Mr. Taylor’s direction, have also been working really hard to get the school ready.
The school is open this week from August 27-August 31. If you have any information to share (medical, families moving, etc.), please drop in or call the school. This is typically a busy week with new registrations, and class lists generated in June are subject to change, sometimes even over the long week-end. Please note that class list information will not be shared in advance of the first day of school
Below, please find a few updates, and some information about the first day of school and some upcoming community events.
If your student has graduated or left the school, or you do not wish to receive these updates, please click "unsubscribe" at the bottom of the page.
First Day of School
- Students arrive after 8:50 a.m. and go to their yard where staff will assist them in finding their grade and class. Students go to the following locations (when approaching the front of the building from Welborne Avenue):
- Primary students (Gr. 1-3) go to the left of the building
- Kindergarten students go to the fenced-in area at the front
- Junior and Intermediate students (Gr. 4-8) go to the right of the building (past the kindergarten yard)
- Students who arrive by school bus should have received their route information (if there was a change from last year). If you have any route or bus questions, please visit the Tri-Board Transportation website (triboard.ca), or contact them by email (info@triboard.ca), or by phone (1-866-569-6638). It is not unusual to have a few hiccups with transportation in the first week of school – please reassure your child that things will be worked out.
- If it is raining on the first day, please see staff on each yard who will direct students where to go.
- In theory, almost all Welborne students can either walk to school or arrive by bus. If you have decided to drive your child to school, please remember not to enter the parking lot or bus loop. There are several access points to the school yard which will be functional. Please have a plan for the first day if you are driving or walking your child(ren).
- The first day of school can be emotional for students and parents. It is important that parents do not enter the building with their children. Some tips from parents who have “been there before” are to keep the good-bye short and positive (“Good bye sweetheart, I am really excited for the day you are going to have!”), let your child know where you are going (“While you are at school, I have an appointment, have to go to work, etc.”) and let them know you are looking forward to seeing them after school. It is suggested that parents/guardians leave the school yard when the bell rings to help with the transition.
Construction/Renovation Updates
- A new heating system has been installed, as well as new flooring in some classrooms and the main office areas
- Limestone DSB has and is undertaking some work to upgrade the surface under some of our existing play structures and a few other upgrades to our our outdoor equipment. Work on the Junior Play structure is complete, but some of the smaller upgrade work may persist into the start of the school year.
- The City Park adjacent to our school has also been a work site as city crews perform upgrades to this play area. The plans for this look great, but the project manager has informed us that they are waiting on a new play structure which is not expected until October. We will be starting the school year with this area fenced off.
