Letter from the Principal
October 2021
Greetings SPHS families and friends,
It is hard to believe we are four weeks away from the end of the first quarter. Even as we return back to in-person learning, we continue to work to meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of our scholars. Our daily goal is to provide a safe, learning environment that realizes and values the diverse scholars who attend Sun Prairie High School.
The mid-term Progress report is available on Infinite Campus. This snapshot allows for you to review your scholar’s progress in their current classes and provide them with support. Parents are always encouraged to check on their scholars’ grades, academic progress, and student attendance in Infinite Campus. We want all of our students to start strong so they can end the year strong!
Due to the early start of the 2021 – 2022 school year, the Family/Teacher conference will be held on Thursday, October 7 from 4 pm – 8 pm, and Friday, October 8th from 7:30 am – 11:30 am. Our families have the option of attending in-person or virtual. The teacher will send out the Sign-up genius link to families. This is a change we hope will make the process easier for families. Of course, you are always encouraged to reach out to our teachers whenever there are questions.
Our goal at SPHS is to ensure that all students are college- and career-ready when they leave our halls. To assist with students’ future goals, our counselors will be holding numerous student sessions throughout the year. On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, our counselors will host our annual WEF (Wisconsin Education Fair) for our Junior and Senior scholars. This is a great opportunity to meet with over 100 colleges, professionals, and the military to learn about what they have to offer. Also on this day, there is Financial Aid planning and assistance session from 6 pm – 8 pm in SPHS LMC where seniors are able to obtain assistance with preparing their 2022 – 2023 FAFSA. Please know the counselors are always available to help answer questions and parents are encouraged to reach out for any assistance.
As we look ahead into October, there are a few key dates we want our families to be aware of:
October 13th- PSAT- For students previously signed up
October 19 – Picture Re-take day
October 22 – No School for Students
October 27 – End of the 1st quarter
We are looking forward to continuing the great start to the year and we want to thank you for being such a great partner with the schools. As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
Warmest Regards,
Renee Coleman, Principal

Math League
There are 4 opportunities each year for students to participate in fun and challenging math contests, through the Madison Area Mathematics League(MAML). This series of meets are hosted by the Madison high schools and always occurs on a Wednesday after school. The contests are open to any student who has an interest and are filled using the first-come-first-served policy. Sample contests, sign-up information, and permission forms can be found in the Math League Google Classroom (join code: ls7swir). All announcements will be posted through Google Classroom.
This year’s competition dates are Oct. 27, Dec. 1, Feb. 9, and Mar. 16. The first two dates will be “virtual at home school”. That is, we will submit online but participate together from our own high school. Watch Google Classroom for details as the competition nears. Please feel free to contact Ms. Bethany Konz at bakonz@sunprairieschools.org with any questions.
