FINALLY! Parents Can Get Updates On Their Child Through Google Classroom!

Google Classroom: Parent and Guardian Update is Here!
A new feature in Google Classroom that will automatically share summaries of student work with parents. Once invited by a teacher, parents and guardians can receive automated daily or weekly email summaries of student work and class announcements, making it easier to stay up-to-date on what’s happening in the classroom.


DIRECTIONS:

Turn on or off guardian summaries

You can turn on guardian summaries for your class. By default, summaries are turned off.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com.

  2. Click your class.
  3. Under Guardian Email Notifications, click Include this class to On .
  4. (Optional) Check the box if you want to add all the classes you teach to guardian email summaries.
  5. Click Add.



Invite a guardian

Your school administrator chooses who—verified teachers or administrators—has permission to invite and remove guardians. Only one person needs to invite the guardian. Once a guardian accepts the invitation, the guardian’s email is linked to the student in all of their classes. All verified teachers and administrators will be able to see the student’s guardian.


If you can’t invite or remove a guardian, contact your administrator for help.


  1. Go to classroom.google.com.

  2. Click the class.
  3. At the top, click Students.
  4. Next to a student’s name, click Invite Guardians.
    To invite additional guardians, next to the student’s name, click More Invite guardians.
  5. Type the guardian’s email address in the text field.
  6. Click Invite to send the invitation or Add Another to add another guardian email address.

If an invitation has been sent and the guardian has not yet accepted, you will see “(invited)” after the guardian's email address. After a guardian accepts the invitation, you and their student will receive a confirmation email and the guardian’s full name will show next to the student’s name. Students don’t see the names of other students’ guardians.

Annotations Inside Google Classroom Is Now Available!

When teachers want to help students understand complex math or science concepts, visuals — like drawings on a whiteboard — can help. But how does this work when students and teachers aren’t in the classroom together?


Using annotations, students can complete assignments, sketch out math problems or even create visuals of creative ideas directly on their devices. This gives students a portable classroom whiteboard on which they can easily draw and sketch. Now, thinking through complex homework challenges from home, school or on the bus is even easier.

Teachers can use annotations to quickly grade assignments by writing directly on the student’s work, or highlighting the most important passages in a text or novel.

Add images to questions and answers in Google Forms

Google Forms has now added the ability to include images in questions or in multiple-choice answers. This is especially great for math, social studies, and science educators who want to have students focus on complex concepts that resonate better in graphics than in text.
