Welcome to Jefferson!!
Jefferson Families,
The summer has flown by and the start of school is just around the corner. We want to welcome all families to Jefferson Intermediate. The last several months have been challenging for everyone and we will face many more challenges together. It is a blessing to be able to work with so many awesome families. We are very excited to have your children with us this year.
There a lot of questions about how Jefferson will operate this year. We have been working hard to put many different procedures and safety protocols in place. Each week the guidelines seem to change and we will continue to adapt to these changes. As we try things we will learn what works and what doesn't and we will adjust as we learn. More information will be coming soon regarding protocols and procedures for Jefferson Intermediate and Pella Community Schools.
We really appreciate your patience and flexibility with us as we work to educate students while keeping everyone as safe as possible. The virus has created a less than ideal educational setting. We will continue to work to create as normal of an educational experience as we can for our students while following the health and safety recommendations. It will be a great year working and learning with all of you!
Respectfully,
Brian Miller
Jefferson Intermediate Principal
Parent Drop off and Pick Up Procedures.
All parents dropping off students before school will need to use the parent loop in the back of the building. This can be accessed from the swimming pool parking lot or off of E. 8th St. School buses will drop off and pick up students in the front of the building.
Parents picking up their children will use the following procedures:
- Each grade level has a holding area where the students will wait with a grade level teacher.
- When your car has moved completely into the loading zone, your child will notify the teacher and we will allow them to get into your vehicle.
- Students will be kept in the holding area until cars have moved forward to fill the loading area spaces; this allows traffic to move safely and efficiently.
- Reminder: Students may only load into a vehicle once it has moved forward and parked in the loading zone. We do not allow students to cross traffic lines or run down to cars outside of the loading zone.
Children are still allowed to walk to the swimming pool lot to be picked up and are not asked to stay in the holding area. They may walk down the sidewalk along the parent driveway.
Just a reminder that if the parent pick-up line is full:
- you can wait in the swimming pool parking lot and/or connection lane and then proceed up the parent driveway instead of parking and waiting on the street. There are safety issues created when cars are backing up along E. 8th St.

Class Lists and Schedules
Class lists for 4th and 5th grade students will be sent to you this Friday afternoon. Students who will be learning online have been assigned to a homeroom teacher that will be providing their virtual instruction. Fourth grade teachers providing virtual instruction will be Linda Goodman and Jennifer Beyer. Fifth grade teachers providing virtual instruction will be Rebecca Helland and Jill Payne. The homeroom list for these four teachers is smaller than the others since their classes will be combined for onsite instruction and includes virtual learning students.
Sixth grade students will find their schedules in their Infinite Campus portal or parents can find their child's schedule in the parent Infinite Campus portal. There is no homeroom class list for sixth grade students.
Fourth and fifth grade class lists will have a link with information regarding your child's teacher. The information for sixth grade teachers can be viewed using the link below.
5th and 6th Grade Supply Dropoff
Since we are working to reduce the number of people in our buildings we will not be able to host our typical meet the teacher time. Fifth and sixth grade students can bring their supplies to their classroom and walk through their schedules on August 19 using the following alphabetical schedule. Only the students will be allowed in the building during this time to reduce the number of people in the hallways. Students will need to wear their mask when they enter the building. Students can also bring their supplies on the first day of school instead of dropping them off during these times.
1:30-2:15 A-M by last name
2:15-3:00 N-Z by last name

Fourth Grade Orientation
We will host a fourth grade orientation on August 19th for students since they were not able to visit Jefferson in the spring. Each student may bring one visitor with them. All participants will need to wear masks. We will start with a short presentation in the gymnasium. Students will be able to visit their classroom and drop off supplies following the presentation. The orientation schedule is as follows:
3:30-4:30 A-M by last name
4:30-5:30 N-Z by last name
