The Fourth Grade 4-1-1

Week of February 1, 2016

The teachers say...

If you don't receive your report card in the next few days, contact Patti Long. And practice your multiplication facts.

Outside Reading Logs

The goal for the second semester is 600 minutes. Log sheets are located on the fourth grade website and in the classrooms. The due date to submit minutes is May 31st. Don't wait until the last minute!

Important Dates:

4S is in charge of morning prayers this week, with 4G and 4 H to follow.

Feb 2: Field trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific. WE ARE LEAVING AT 8:00. DON'T BE LATE FOR SCHOOL! This will tie in our studies in science and give students a chance to look for a special creature to choose for their research project. Please plan on no hot lunch that day, as each student will bring their own sack lunch.

Feb. 3: Children's Hunger Fund field trip. We will leave at 8:15 and return by lunchtime.

Feb 4: Math - Topic 9 Quiz

Feb. 5: Fourth grade mass - 1:00 pm. All are welcome!

Academics

Math: We continue working on long division with remainders. We will also continue to polish our double-digit multiplication skills. Test Thursday.

Spelling/Writing: We are working on lesson 20 for spelling, VCCV patterns. The test will be Thursday, February 11th.

English: Last week we wrote letters to Joel Greene, who presented to the kids, so we didn't get to possessive nouns. We will (attempt) to do that this week! :)

Science: We have completed a study guide on whales and plan on having a test February 9th. We will also begin choosing topics for the research project-DONE 95% IN CLASS.

Reading: Our next story is about Sacagawea. This will tie in nicely to our social studies curriculum!

Robotics: Beginning this week, 4G will get their turn in the robotics lab!

Social Studies: We are moving ahead to Westward Expansion and learning all about how and why people began moving west. This week, kids will learn about the dangers of the Oregon Trail and traveling in a prairie schooner!

Grandparents' Day 2016

Please mark your calendars! It may seem early, but Mayfield’s annual Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ day is right around the corner. We look forward to welcoming the ones we love on February 12, 2016. This is a special tradition, a day when Grandparents or Special Family Friends join students on campus for Mass and classroom activities. To insure we get an invitation to your child's special guest, please fill out the form here if this is your first year at MJS (or there are changes to the addresses from last year's invitation mailing): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12VIQdERng0cKT1-D7Szb_StAXMSSNGZDWVkdrehN_I4/viewform

Thank you,

Nicole Dixon & Tina Yates

Safety first-please remember!

Please email the teachers if your child is going home with a friend at the end of the day...especially if they are in another class. Having this information early in the day helps avoid chaos at the end of the day and is ultimately for your child's safety. Thank you!

Medical Information

It is still the time for colds, coughs, and the flu! Please remember to keep your child home if they exhibit any symptoms. Children MUST be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for your cooperation!
