Sixth Grade Attends Pow Wow

On Friday, September 22nd, our Sixth Grade students had the awesome opportunity to engage in hands on learning at a Pow Wow. The experience aligned perfectly with the Minnesota Studies curriculum. While at the Pow Wow students participated in a variety of activities. The day started off with a demonstration from the St. Paul Raptor Center, which was a favorite part of the day for many. Students then moved into stations ranging from story telling, to tipi building, traditional Dakota foods, regalia and cradle boards, just to name a few. We ended our time with a round dance and some great traditional music. The Sixth Graders were wonderful historians on the field trip and asked many great questions. The students definitely showed off their DMMS PRIDE. Thank you again to all of our Sixth Graders for making it an awesome day, and thank you to everyone who accompanied us and added so much to the experience.

She told of how her office was just a few offices down from where the plane hit. She told of the evacuation and her subsequent return to collect her personal belongings. Students gained a first hand account of what people experienced on that day.

Eighth Grade Pop Art On Display

What is pop art:
A 1950’s art movement based on popular culture. Artists were responding to the nation’s consumer society. Pop art is a style of art which explores the everyday imagery that is so much a part of contemporary consumer culture (advertisements, consumer product packaging, celebrity photographs, and comic strips)

Students were to take a candy wrapper and make it two to three or even eight times it size. Make everyday objects more visible and make you look at them as works of art. Our 8th grade students did an awesome job with this assignment!

Parking Lot Reminders

We would like to thank you for respecting the parking lot pick-up and drop-off procedures! As always DMMS student safety is our number one priority. To assure student safety, parents please follow the designated flow and encourage students to sit on the passenger side of the car. This will avoid students from having to exit and walk in a traffic lane. The student drop off area starts at the basketball hoops and runs past the front door. If drivers use the full sidewalk area, approximately 20 cars can empty at one time. Finally, with cooler weather approaching please be reminded that students should exit when the car stops and NOT wait to move closer to the front door. These few items make a tremendous difference in student safety and the start of everyone’s day!
