ACE Mentor Program
The ACE Mentor Program is a free national program hosted in major cities across the country for any juniors and seniors interested in architecture, construction or engineering.
The Plano/Frisco is starting in October here in Plano. The ACE Mentor Program of America, Inc. (ACE) helps mentor high school junior and seniors http://www.acementor.org/students/ and inspires them to pursue careers in design and construction. Our mission is to engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction through mentoring and to support their continued advancement in the industry. All of our Mentors are local DFW Professionals in one of the 3 A-C-E fields and are required to complete an extensive Background Check and Mentor Training before being part of our program.
Our ACE Plano/Frisco Program begins the first Thursday of October and ends the first Thursday of February with our ACE Awards and Presentation Night. We will meet every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm (most of the time at Hilti North America’s office in Plano). The program will last about 15 weeks (minus holiday weeks) and cover all topics related to A-C-E (such as architecture, interior design, landscape, civil engineering, structural engineering, MEP engineering, construction, etc.)
Students do have to apply to be part of the program, but the program is absolutely free. We even have scholarship opportunities for the seniors at the end of the program (we gave away $31,000 in scholarships last year alone!).
Our student registration is already open (https://app.acementor.org/login) and closes on September 30.
4th Years
4th Year learners are getting into the swing of things this second week of school. They continued work on binary and learned about recursive idea in Computer Science. English paired with Government to discuss the importance of providing textual evidence to support their claims. This is a requisite skill to demonstrate comprehension as they study and analyze the Constitution. In Calculus, learners studied limits and both Calculus and Pre-Calculus took a concept check this Friday. Fourth Years also submitted their plan for their Critical Reflection. The reflection task asks them to reflect on themselves as a learner, their strengths and weaknesses, and their preferred learning styles. To do this work, learners reviewed their portfolio, past project deliverables, grades, etc. All of which proved useful as learners detailed their intended Capstone focus for their Topic Proposal.
3rd Years
Last week the 3rd years experienced how their individual learning needs can influence their project and content deliverables. This included combining and modifying personally relevant ideas into article submission requirements, rotating to relevant U.S. History and Economic stations based on level of need, and practicing the application of value using stippling, cross-hatching, and hatching in preparation for intaglio printmaking. On Monday, the belief that Learning Needs dictate the schedule will be applied as we are switching to a block schedule for the remainder of the project. This will allow for a more in-depth dive into individual content and give learners time to write their articles for their newspaper. All 4-5 of their articles are due next week.
We are excited about how the year has begun and look forward to continue creating our Newspapers
Thank,
The 3rd Year Team
