Principal Update
Happy Friday RSI Parents and Family Members,
This week we finished up the mathematics ILEARN assessment and will finish up the social studies (5th grade) and science (6th grade) early next week. Our last testing schedule date is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3rd. Make up testing will be utilized daily through May 10th, however we should be finished up prior to that date. Please continue to promote solid rest, healthy breakfast, and attendance through the week. I appreciate all of you who have held off on making any doctor appointments during testing. Just a reminder that we will begin NWEA, both math and ELA, when the ILEARN window is closed. We will attempt to give our students a breather, but the testing window closes May 17th.
Today I can report that the RSI staff had a healthy and professional focus during our full day of local professional development. We covered many different topics and the staff presented a highly positive attitude and output in regard to our school improvement, innovation, MTSS, and Equity/Inclusion plans. We appreciate the opportunity to take time together in learning and professional growth. Thanks for helping our Hawks with their eLearning today! We appreciate you!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dana Kaminski, Ph.D.
Riverside Intermediate Principal

Covid Positive Reporting
Covid Info for Families
Please remember to send your student to school healthy. If a student is ill and has any of the symptoms of Covid listed below, we encourage you to get your student tested using a PCR test, which is available via Fishers Health Department (COVID Vaccine | Fishers, IN - Official Website) or the Indiana Department of Health (ISDH - Novel Coronavirus: COVID-19 Testing Information). PCR tests are the most accurate and provide less risk of a false positive or negative result. A visit to your physician is also suggested if you feel this is not Covid-related, then a doctor's note would be needed for your student to return to school. Please do not send your child to school ill or while waiting for Covid test results.
Symptoms to monitor for:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of Breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore Throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
Covid Test Kits
The Indiana Department of Health has supplied HSE Schools with Covid test kits to provide to our families. Test kits are available for families to pick up at the school or if your student is being sent home from school with Covid-like symptoms, the nurse will offer to send a test kit home with your student. Testing does not take place in the school by nursing but can be sent home for a parent/guardian to perform.

The Riverside goats arrived in 2019, they are an integral part of our learning community. In the coming years RSI would like to welcome additional goats, expand their enclosure, and continue to provide them with all they need to be happy. August 9 - 6:45-7:30PM - Grade 6 - Meet the Teacher
ATTENTION 5TH GRADE PARENTS!
The end of the school year is quickly approaching and now is the time to begin thinking about required vaccines for your child who will be entering the 6th grade. The Indiana State Department of Health requires additional immunizations for all 6th grade students after they turn 11 years old.
The required shots are:
-- Tdap (Tetanus diphtheria & acellular pertussis) booster
-- Meningococcal conjugate
If your child will not turn 11 years old prior to the first day of school in August, he/she will be required to receive the above vaccines within 20 school days after their 11th birthday.
After your child receives the vaccines, please provide an updated shot record to the school nurse as soon as possible. Your child’s Skyward account will be updated accordingly.
Children with a medical or religious exemption on file are required to have a new form completed each year. Please contact the nurse for more information or to obtain the necessary forms.

Creating Positive Relationships
Your child’s PE class will be participating in the Creating Positive Relationships curriculum during April and May rotations. Please review the curricula summary provided below. (Parents have the option to opt-out at any time during the school year, before lessons are taught.)
6th grade curriculum-Building Healthy Futures
Students are taught what to expect as they progress through puberty: physical, emotional, social and mental changes. They learn about the reproductive system anatomy, the steps of physical affection, delaying gratification, and the importance of choosing friends that encourage good decision making. Students also learn how STIs are spread and any myths they may believe are dispelled. Students are shown how HIV effects the immune system. Porn is defined, and it is explained how it provides no health benefit. Students receive a booklet for note taking and they are encouraged to share each day’s lesson with their parent/guardians.
Parents have the right to review the material before lessons are taught at school.
More detailed information is available in a Parent Webinar at: https://www.cpr4teens.org/parents/parents-guide/
If you do not wish your child to participate in these lessons, please speak with the teacher before you exclude your child. These lessons provide great discussion starters for the parent/guardian and child about relationships.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
Response to Instruction (RtI) is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
