A special shout out and huge thank you goes out to our EC Department. Our EC Department has worked very hard over the last month to make sure we met the December 1st head count deadline. In addition, I would like to recognize Ms. Dodson for her leadership with supporting the team towards accomplishing this very important goal.
Learn Check #2 Update
The week before the Thanksgiving break we conducted our 2nd Learn Checks. Attached you will see how our scholars performed on the learn checks along with the targets that have been set for the CIA 2 that will be held in January. Our next round of learn checks will be held the week of December 12-16.
2nd Quarter Progress Reports Distributed December 5th & 6th
Second quarter progress reports will be distributed next Monday and Tuesday, December 5th & 6th. Please make sure that your grade books are up to date so that parents and families can review Power School and progress reports with their scholars.
Follow Up Visit From Mecklenburg County Fire Inspector
Before the holiday break we received an inspection from the Mecklenburg County Fire Inspector. We passed inspection but the inspector requested that all signs, posters, etc be removed from the blinds and/or ceilings. The inspector confirmed that he would return to ensure that signs were removed this week. If you have anchor charts, posters, signs or anything hanging from your window blinds or ceilings, please remove them on Monday morning.
ESL Update
Our ESL scholars have been working very hard to acquire mastery of the English language and at the same time express themselves in song and writing in response to current events in our country. Below is a link from Ms. Arellano's class of our scholars singing and dancing to motivational songs. Below that are pictures of the gripping letters that Ms. Gray's scholars wrote to President-Elect Trump that are gracing the bulletin board on our main hallway.

SMS Micro-Gardens Are Thriving
Below are pictures of the micro-gardens that our science & social studies classes have been growing this semester. The gardens are thriving and approaching harvest time. Thank you to Ms. Eldridge and our science and social studies teachers for making this experience possible for our scholars. We are looking forward to an exciting taste testing and healthy food symposium with Kale & Collards grown by our scholars.
