McDougle Weekly Update
August 30, 2020
This Week at McDougle
Remote Learning Updates/Tips
Specials - Starting this week, specials will still be allotted their 45 minute timeframe. However, what will be different is the specialists' flexibility to complete their live lessons in 30 minutes and give students either a take -away asynchronous assignment for the last 15 minutes or just give them a 15 minute break after the live lesson. In order for this to work, students need to arrive on time to specials.
K-1 - In order to make iPad navigation easier for students, we have ordered styluses for all K-1 students. When they arrive, we will communicate a plan for distribution.
Computer Shutdown - Please have your children shut down computers each day after instruction. We are hoping that this will help improve the functionality of Google Meet. We hope to have an upgraded Google Meet platform to use by the end of the month. The upgrade will have additional features for teachers to use such as polling and breakout rooms.
Tips for Families
The OT team has made quite a few 'tip' sheets for families during Covid. The first is about setting up a homework space and routine. The second is a list of resources for stabilizing and positioning iPads and laptops (DIY and ready made).

2. Resources for Sloped Surfaces
i-Ready - Here is a video for families to watch about i-Ready diagnostic testing from home. Students will start i-Ready at the end of next week. Teachers will communicate specific dates to parents.
The Poe Center - Here is information on programming that the Poe Center offers families.

Instructional Technology Website
The Instructional Technology Department at CHCCS has created a website dedicated to helping teachers, students and families navigate all the software we are using. It's a really comprehensive, helpful site.
PTA Updates
Dear Dolphin Family,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year and what a year it will be! There will be challenges that we have never faced before, but as a community and family we can help each other, and our children, come away from this school year stronger and smarter.
The strength of our McDougle family is the heart and foundation of our theme this year.
“Built McDougle Tough! Together We Can Do Virtually Anything”
The McDougle Elementary School PTA is a channel for families to provide and receive help. To build community. To advocate for our students and to foster change. We invite all parents, caregivers, staff, and community members to become active participants in helping our McDougle family, through the PTA. Please visit the MES PTA website (MESPTA) to access information about upcoming events and meetings, learn about volunteer opportunities, and how to join the PTA. In addition, you will find information and links to important resources, such as both the district calendar and MES calendar, as well as the Families Helping Families program.
We look forward to seeing all of our McDougle parents and faculty be a part of the Built McDougle Tough PTA. If you have questions or want to learn more, please reach out to any one of the PTA board members.
Let’s make this an amazing year!
Warmest regards,
Shanna Fussell
MES PTA President
Built McDougle Tough
NOTE: We encourage and welcome all families to become involved as they are able, regardless of PTA membership status. PTA memberships are renewed annually, and we thank you in advance for joining us this year!
