Primary 'Good News' letter
News and events taking place from 24th May - 7th June
Message from Miss Kerry, Primary Principal
Dear Parents
It has been a full and active week again in the Primary School as we prepare for the upcoming visitors from the British Schools Overseas inspection team. We have shared our Vision Statement
“World Class Learning for All”
Our philosophy remains firmly embedded within the International Baccalaureate Organisation and we aim to foster students who inquire , reflect, and act positively in all areas of school life. Our Values follow the UAE National Agenda including Happiness and Respect for all cultural identities, rooted in international mindedness.
I would like you to join us at home to talk to your children about our new school motto:
“ We all succeed, every day”
The next few weeks will be busy and productive for us. The BSO visit is between 28th and 30th May and we would encourage everyone to attend school during the first few days of Ramadan so that learning continues.
Ramadan Arrangements
As our school approaches the commencement of Ramadan, we would like to inform you that, as directed by the Ministry of Education, school hours will be shorter during this Holy Month.
Regular classes, teaching and learning will still be taking place and students are expected to attend school during Ramadan as absence will seriously affect their progress and start points for the next academic year. Absence will also be recorded on their reports and they will need to catch up missed work.
The school day will commence for all students at 8:30 AM and finish at 1:30 PM.
Our youngest children and those children and Staff in Primary school who are not fasting will be using the canteen as normal which will be screened from view of our fasting children. This is normal practice in many areas around the UAE. Students and staff will have designated zones where water can be drunk without doing so in front of any fasting children.
Children who are fasting occasionally feel unwell. Our clinic is well set up in order to ensure students are cared for appropriately. We will always call home to let you know if this happens and students will take permission from parents (or choose themselves if they are old enough) to make the decision to break their fast for medical reasons.
During Ramadan, the children will not go outside to play during break times since the weather is hot. There is ample play space in breakout areas indoors throughout the school.

U10 and U12 basketball results
Once again our girls represented AJAC in the sporting arena. Nineteen girls competed in the finals of the basketball league of the Emirates International Schools Sport Association (EISSA) organised and hosted at Victoria International School (VISS).
The U10 and U12 teams had the support of two grade 8 students, Latifa and Enas, who made use of their leadership skills and knowledge of the sport. They acted as assistant coaches and scorekeepers. As we are a whole family school, we even had FS2 students Isabella and Dania and PY2 student Juliana being the mascots and cheerleaders.
It was a fantastic afternoon enjoyed by all, that culminated in a final match against RAK with a winning score 2-0 Although this might not sound as a massive win, our team had previously lost against RAK on their first encounter over a month ago… so it is an achievement, a learning experience and a positive outcome for them.
We are very proud of the team and thanks go to all who support and coach the girls.
Our Child Protection Team
Child Protection Officers (CPOs) are trained members of staff who are responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are carefully followed with regards to safeguarding and child protection.
They deal with referrals from families and teachers and ensure these are processed according to policy and UAE law. CPOs also ensure that the school itself is protecting and caring for children to the highest standard. This included monitoring eSafety, actively working to eliminate bullying, advising on classroom Personal, Social and Health Education Programmes (PSHE), monitoring school behaviour management procedures and working with the Health and Safety Committee.
We are delighted to introduce Mr Michael and Miss Emma (joining the AJAC team in September) as CPOs in the Primary Section. Miss Sam and Miss Mabrouka will lead in the Secondary Section. These CPOs are available and open to speak with you at any time about issues relating to Safeguarding and Child Protection.
iPAD collection
At the end of May we will need to do an inventory and stock take of children’s iPads.
To enable us to do this while learning continues as normal,
We would like to collect all ipads in from FS to PY3 on Thursday 25th May. Each classroom has a charging trolley to store the ipads safely. PY4 to PY6 children should hand their ipads in, to class teachers on Wednesday 31st May. Each day they should bring their charger cable in their school bags to ensure that their iPad remains ready for learning.
Please ensure that if you do plan to travel early you do hand in the Ipad before travel. School is open until 22nd June and learning will be continuing until then.
