International Dot Day Celebration!

We had fun celebrating International Dot Day in the library this year. Based on the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds, International Dot Day is a celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration. In the story, Vashti is an art student who is feeling discouraged about her abilities until her art teacher encourages to "make her mark and see where it takes you." Readers all over the world have been inspired for years now to discover their own potential and creativity and "make their own mark."

Visual Literacy Festival

It's time to start thinking and planning out some great ideas for entries into Richland One's Visual Literacy Festival! Each year the district conducts 5 contests to promote creativity and learning through visual literacy. I hope you will consider submitting entries for at least one of the contests this year. The categories are photography, editorial cartoons, puppetry, computer technology/video, and book production. I have distributed flyers to teacher boxes with information including entry deadlines. Feel free to contact me for help with ideas, applications, or anything else! You may also visit the Visual Literacy page for more information and application forms!

Photography entry due date has been extended to Wednesday, October 17.

Get ConnectED!

The Richland County Public Library is working with schools to ensure that every student has a library card. Library cards have been sent home with every student which can be activated at any branch or online at Already have a card? Bring your new card to any location to have any late fines waived. Activate or merge your cards and enjoy free books, music, homework help, eBooks, video games and more!

Get Creative with Pumpkins!

Be on the lookout for information on our first character pumpkin decorating contest! Students will be encouraged to decorate pumpkins as their favorite books characters.
