COVID-19 Updates

January 6, 2021

Dear OLR Parents and Students,

On Wednesday, January 5th, the school had mandatory testing for all students and staff regardless of vaccination status. The CORE COVID-19 was here and tested the entire team and 159 students. Out of our staff, zero tested positive, ten students tested positive, and 46 students did not report for testing. The Omicron variant is highly contagious, it is not as strong as last year, but it spreads faster.

Mandatory Testing of All Students & Staff Regardless of Vaccination Status

All students will need to test negative to return to in-person instruction and participate in extra-curricular activities. If your child did not report for testing, the parent/guardian is required to get him/her tested and send a copy of the test results to the school at before returning to the school.

COVID-19 Testing on Campus Dates

The following school-wide testing dates will be Wednesday, January 12th and 19th. These test dates will continue to be Mandatory for all students and staff because, according to the health department, this variant will still be highly transmissible in January. If conditions should change, we will let you know.

This is the link to the register STUDENTS:

The first day of in-person class was Wednesday, January 5, 2022

From this day forward, teachers are already teaching and assigning work. If your child is sick, please let the office know to give them an excuse for absence, but they are still responsible for turning in their assignments. Teachers in grades 3rd-8th will be posting the directions and assignments on Google Classroom; if your child needs assistance with assignments, please have them message the teacher via email or Classdojo for a tutoring session. Teachers in grades TK-2nd will be sending home a package of assignments to be completed at home. If parents need assistance, please contact your child’s teacher via email or ClassDojo.

From the last academic year, we learned that our students learn the best when in the classroom with their teacher. Therefore, we will only conduct our classes virtually if the family is under exceptional circumstances and has no other options.

Three-ply Surgical Masks

According to the health department guidelines they suggest students wear Three-ply surgical masks instead of cloth masks or gators. Masking is required on campus while indoors and outdoors except when eating and drinking.

Please do not send your child to school if they have any of the following symptoms: Fever or chills, Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or body aches, Headache, New loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Congestion or runny nose, Nausea or vomiting, Diarrhea

Vaccinated Students may have shorter quarantine requirements if exposed or test positive. The CDC recently announced new guidelines for people who are vaccinated. Should your son/daughter be exposed or test positive for COVID-19, we will be in touch with you on the specific requirements as they apply to your son/daughter’s situation.

Positive Cases & Exposure

Students who test positive for COVID-19 must immediately isolate.

  • After five days, they may retest.
  • If they test negative, they may return to school as long as they have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine and have no other COVID-19 related symptoms.
  • If the retest is positive, they must continue to isolate another 5 days and may return to the school only if they have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine and have no other COVID-19 related symptoms.

Students who have come into close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 will be contacted and directed according to the exposure management plan guidelines provided by the health department.

Attached with this email you will find a letter sent to all schools from our Superintendent Paul Escala.

Dear LA County Community Sector Partners,

Please see information below about no-cost COVID-19 testing at local health centers and select pharmacies.

The COVID-19 testing sites on the LA County COVID-19 Testing website offer no-cost (free) testing.
