Tammany Hall, was a New York City political organization founded in 1786 and incorporated on May 12, 1789, as the Tammany Society. It was the biggest democratic political machine that controlled New York and New York State and politics.

What were they known for?
They were known for helping immigrants,, mainly the Irish, find jobs and gave them protection. They also controlled much of the politics in New York and New York State.
