The Quill 01/15/21
Creating Opportunities Together
A Thought or Two From Mr. Nieslanik
Welcome to 2021! I know that many of us were on the countdown for 2020 to end. I know the Class of 2021 is excited about this year, but I'm holding my breath before I take a stand! I do know that I am looking forward to us returning to school. As of this edition of The Quill I have no information beyond what was shared by the Superintendent last week. We are currently functioning under the idea that CDL will continue for the year if the metrics do not change. I do know that we are working behind the scenes to build what we are calling BSD Connect. This academic and social support program will be implemented when we have a better understanding of Governor Brown's guidance to be released on January 19th. As soon as we are given the green light, and the metrics allow us to return, we will begin returning students into the building in some form. I have no idea what this looks like, but do know we are moving towards this goal ever so thoughtfully. I do like spending time with the office staff and the other administrators, but I have to be honest, I miss the students. They keep me young, and I'm not feeling so young these days!
We are nearing the end of the grading period. For some classes, this is the end of the year-long course, and these courses are required for graduation. Please take the time to access Parentvue and look at current grades, all grades have been updated as of Friday, January 8th. This quarter ends on Thursday, February 4th. There is still time to improve grades. A friendly reminder, all incomplete marks from quarter one should be made up as soon as possible. If you have questions, please reach out directly to the teacher. They will have far more information than I.
Until next time,
David

Human Services Career Speaker Series--January 27th
Career-Speaker Series Returning For Spring 2021
We are bringing back the Career-Speaker Series for the Spring 2021. This year will need to be virtual, but we have a plan on how we can connect speakers and students! All we need are volunteers to share their craft, their career journey, and the skills needed to successfully complete the work! We need volunteers for:
- January 27: Human Services (Lawyers, social workers, community organizations, public policy, teachers, etc.)
- February 10th: Trades (Plumbers, auto-technician, electricians, construction, etc)
- April 7th: Business and Marketing (Entrepreneurship, accounting, graphic design, marketing, etc.)
- April 21st: Tech Careers (Software design, game design, computer information systems, etc.)
- May 12th: Trades (Repeat of February 10th event)
If you are interested and able to help, please email David Nieslanik. The time frame is from 10:00-11:00.
Thank you to all who joined us on January 13th! We had 11 presenters in the Health Careers Fields, and each were simply outstanding. 175 students attended, and we are honored to bring this Speaker Series to our students!
Band beginning to practice in Mid-January!
