GLENDALE ELEMENTARY DECEMBER NEWS
#FOLLOWYOURDREAMS
HELLO DECEMBER!
Dear Families,
The story for this month is: Chester Raccoon and the Big Bad Bully by Audrey Penn
When Mrs. Raccoon learns that there is a bully problem at school, she decides to investigate the situation. But after seeing the bully for herself, she shares a story about a forest that was full of smooth yellow stones, and how the animals living there changed a pointy stone they found into a smooth stone so that it wouldn't hurt any tender paws. Chester, Ronny, and Cassy follow the spirit of Mrs. Raccoon's story when they next encounter the Bully. Approaching him as a group, they invite him to play, proving that the best way to get rid of an enemy is to make him or her a friend.
This book encourages children to understand that many child bullies are themselves unhappy and gives readers a good example of settling differences by peaceful means. Educators will embrace this story about a positive strategy for dealing with a bully.
I hope you enjoy it, and always remember to :
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Take care,
Jennifer Molitor

Congratulations to all of the students that received this award for October! The next C.A.R.E.S. breakfast honoring the November winners will be Friday, December 9th.
GLENDALE WALL OF HONOR
Thank you to those families who took the time to submit the sheets & help us show these military men and women we care!!
**And a HUGE thank you to our parent volunteers Tina & Nick Dennen along with volunteer noon supervisor, Linda Nelson, who so graciously hung these veteran sheets for us to enjoy!!**
BOB THE TURKEY TOOK 1st PLACE!
Their theme was "The Glendale Kitchen is Thankful for our Community, Individuality and Inclusion". They had each of our 545 students decorate a feather that was included in the creation of their 3-D turkey, whom the students named "Bob". Our students showed so much pride in the project and started an all-out chant in the cafeteria when they found out Bob won the Golden Spoon! Great work to our AWESOME Nutrition Team and all of our students!!
Bob!
So many feathers, they hung them on the serving line!

MORNING DROP OFF & AFTERNOON PICK UP REMINDERS
- All K-5 students that are dropped off or walk, should go to the lower level doors. Please do not use upper level parking for drop off
- Only Buses & special transportation vans are allowed to drop students off in the upper level parking lot- this is not a parent drop off zone!
AFTERNOON PICK UP:
- In order to have our buses get our children home on time, they all leave Glendale at the same time. We ask Cars turning left into the parking, please wait for the buses to leave and then proceed to pick up their child(ren). This will help keep the flow of traffic going so we can get the children home safely.
- Please NO PARKING in our upper lot from 3:30pm until the end of the day. If you need to pick up your child(ren) in that time frame, please park in the lower level & walk up the hill to the front office for pick up.
E-LEARNING DAYS
ATTENDANCE: MAKING ATTENDANCE A PRIORITY
While the 2022-23 school year has started off with less interruptions from Covid-19, we are still grappling with the health pandemic. Many students are settling into a routine of regular attendance, making it more important than ever to support this rhythm during the month of December. As long as your child is healthy, please prioritize attendance at school. Every day is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as to connect with their peers and teachers.
Our winter break is from Thursday, December 23 - Monday, January 2. School will resume on Tuesday, January 3. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra time off before and after winter break.
We appreciate the effort of families to avoid school absences the days before and after winter break. May these days off be restful and enjoyable. Thank you for partnering with us!

PHY ED-
Hello Glendale Families! We have spent time working in stations, concentrating on jump rope skills and using the Rockwall . We also had the opportunity to play some large group throwing and catching games. Ask your child if they remember the rules to Battleship.
**Special Request: If any family has ROPE HOLIDAY LIGHTS, the PE Department would gladly take them. Moonlight Bowling is fast approaching, and we could use a few more ROPE LIGHTS. Remember to bring tennis shoes.
COLD WEATHER APPAREL
Dressing your child with warm clothes, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots helps students have a fun time in cold, snowy weather. **Students will always go outdoors for recess unless the "feels like" temperature falls below -5 degrees or it is steadily raining. Please help to make sure your child is prepared for outdoor recess each day!
**IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO LABEL YOUR CHILD’S JACKET, MITTENS, HAT, SNOW PANTS, AND BOOTS TO HELP PREVENT THEM FROM GETTING LOST!!
