Student data review
Teachers,
In January, I would like to meet with each teacher to review your student data, have a conversation about who may be on your "at-risk" list, what interventions you have in place and what supports you may need from the administration team to ensure student success. We will meet during either your library, music or computer time.
Use the attached link to schedule an appointment for us to meet and discuss your students. I have created 1/2 hour slots for our meeting. Please choose a time that your class either has technology, library or music.
Announcements
- Middle School - School of Choice Window Feb. 11-24
- Parent - Teacher SCHOOL Compact - Teachers please take some time to review the School Compact (in your files) with your student and send them out o Thursday - January 9th.
- Education Celebration - are you in? let me know :)
- Attendance - It is vital that all teachers complete class attendance not later than 10:00 am. Missed attendance creates extra work for both the teacher and our office supervisor. Please try to call home or email the parent whenever a student is absent.

First up from the counselor’s office:
> SBAC: DID YOU CREATE YOUR SBAC LOGIN? Go to www.CAASPP.com > click on green box “Test Operations Management System (TOMS) > Press “Forgot Your Password?”. You will receive an email with a temp code (email temp code active for 15 minutes). Follow the steps, create new fancy Pas*wo6d and write down your new password somewhere. Let’s start preparing the kiddos. LMK when I can come into your class to train students on the TOOLS of the SBAC...especially 3rd grade. ;-)
> SBAC/CAA/CAST test window: April 20 - May 29. A specific schedule will be coming soon to a theater near you. ;-D
> SBAC Interim Assessments may start as early as Sept. 16. See email sent Friday regarding the video to watch to activate your account since we missed the first email :-) You will need to sign an electronic SBAC Affidavit the first time you login. Once you create your new password you can begin accessing the CAASPP Interim Assessments and Reporting System, as well as the extensive resources available in the Digital Library.
> New FIAB for SBAC practice: Focused Interim Assessment Blocks accesses no more than three assessment targets than traditional IABs do to provide educators with a more detailed understanding of student learning. Traditional IABs could focus on up to eight assessment targets. Go to LROI>CAASPP Resources>More tab>Interim Assessments...peruse around! :-D Let's start practicing. We can start getting some data back on the IABs or the FIABs to help us drive instruction. Sign me up to start teaching the tools and practicing with your kiddos. Call me (phone hand sign up to my ear right now)...
> Middle School: All 5th graders will receive a middle school packet in January that includes important dates and events. Kettering/Naples 5th grade Parent Meeting in January in the Kettering library.
> Mentor Monday: Please continue to meet with your mentee each month. Perhaps this week is a great time to catch up from the break and to do another activity from the booklet. We'll be sure to get our fabulous Holiday Mentor Monday group pic on the website. You all were amazing. I hope you enjoyed the little luncheon and playing legos with your mentee. :-D
> SST: So far we have had 6 SSTs and two 504 meetings. Our school psychologist has started Initial Assessments on three students along with completing a few Re-evaluations.
> GATE Screening: GATE post-screen all complete. Parents received a letter during the Thanksgiving break. GATE identification will not happen until May 2020. The GATE Office will create a rubric with all LBUSD Assessments, the TAB form teachers complete, along with their GATE Post-screen score to assist in identifying who qualifies or not.
> LB BLAST Mentor Program (NEW): please turn in your BLAST student referrals on the form I placed in your box before we left for break. I will create a profile for each student so the directors of BLAST can match up the college mentors from CSULB and CSUDH based on the schedule and needs of the student you provided on the referral form. They will either be an undergrad senior or a post-grad student. They will be assigned to students (you refer) 2x/week for a one hour/session. They will work with their mentee on anything you would like (math facts, writing, reading comp., etc) for eight weeks. I am looking forward to implementing this awesome free program at Kettering.
> SST information on students live in LROI. LROI>Applications>Student Study Team>search student (you may need to toggle to ‘18-’19 or ‘17-’18 school year to see previous SSTs). Paper directions are in the box with my counselor referral forms. So far we have had SIX SSTs.
> Counselor Referral Forms: teachers, staff, parents, and students may complete a form and place in my box. Once I am back on campus I will attend to the referral forms asap. :-)
> Sanford Harmony: Please let me know if you would like me to do a few SH Lessons in your class. So far I have had SH lessons with Downey’s class, Celestial’s class and Sutton’s class.

> Thought for the week: Welcome back!! Let’s get this party started. Let’s continue to fill our cups with gratitude, joy, forgiveness, words of affirmation, kindness, joy, and gentleness. Whatever spills out of our cups, students feel. Let’s help each other fill each other’s cup. EASE (Employee Assistance Service for Education) is an amazing resource for family troubles, emotional distress, drug/alcohol problems, and job stress. CONFIDENTIAL # 800-882-1341. Free to all LBUSD employees. :-) We are human too! If we are not doing well, then our kiddos will feed on this. They are very vigilant and aware when adults are bothered by them. They may feel your stress, your sadness, but they also feel your warmth, your smile, and your positivity. <3
