Meadow Park News
September 13th, 2019
Principal's Corner
Our first full week is nearly in the books and it's been another fantastic week to be at The Park. Today, we opened our PARK Store during lunch for the first time. Throughout the opening weeks, our students have been earning PARK tickets for exhibiting Positive, Aware, Responsible, and Kind behaviors and today was their opportunity to cash those in for candy, plushies, squishies, bookmarks, pop-sockets, and other items during lunchtime. We hope all of our students had opportunities to earn some tickets and get something from the store today!
Now that students are getting comfortable with their schedule, next week we will be focused on getting students to class on time and prepared to learn. At The Park, this means they have their binder with pen/pencil and supplies, their Chromebook, and a choice reading book in every classroom. Our Humanities classrooms have their own libraries that students can select books from if they don't have one! Additionally, the Meadow Park library has had the highest circulation in the district for the past two years. Our kids are readers! If a student has extra time in any class, they will be encouraged to pull out a book and read.
Next week, we will be welcoming families to The Park for Back-to-School Night. This evening is an opportunity to hear from each of your child's classroom teachers about course content, grading, and classroom procedures. The evening begins at 6pm in the cafeteria and will run until approximately 8pm. More details will arrive next week along with a schedule for how to get to each classroom. A warning--the parking lot fills up incredibly quickly on these busy evenings (as do the nearby neighborhoods). Arriving a little early will help you to make sure you don't miss anything!
We look forward to seeing you this coming Thursday, September 19th for Back-to-School Night!
Make it a great week!

Dressed down and ready for PE on the right day!
Please sit down with your son and daughter to determine if they have PE on Blue or Yellow Days. Then, using the Meadow Park's Blue/Yellow Day Calendar, mark the days that they need to come to school in clothing that is suitable for PE. Suitable clothing is "athletic clothing" and most importantly - comfortable tennis shoes that lace up! Thank you so much for your support!
Nutrition Services Information - Easy to access!
Last reminder...
Nutrition Services information is easier to access this year, and we have lots of cool information to share! Click on the link below to go to SchoolCafe, and see all the things that you can do:
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/nutrition-services/meals/schoolcafe.
Remember that the 30-day Rollover Period for 2018-2019 meal benefits will end in early October. Be sure to apply TODAY so your students don’t have a lapse in benefits. Any families whose students go into “Paid” status will be responsible to pay for all meals charged in school cafeterias. Don’t let this happen to you!
All you need is your student’s ID number. If you don’t have that, you can call your school office
or the Meal Benefits line (503-356-3957). Here are some of your options in SchoolCafe:
- Create an account
- Apply for Meal Benefits
- View and print Meal Benefits letters
- See what items your student is getting in the cafeteria.
- Check your student’s account balance.
- View cafeteria menus
- Set up low balance alerts
- Set up auto-pay (when balance gets to an amount that YOU set, the account is replenished from your credit card)
Chromebooks are in student hands!
•Chromebook should always remain in their case when not in use.
•If your child is cleaning his or her Chromebook, please remember to use only computer safe cleaning wipes that can be used on the keyboard and screen. Some products can scratch or damage the device.
•Avoid eating or drinking when working on the Chromebook.
•Chromebooks are tied to school district accounts and should be used for academic purposes. In the event your child's Chromebook is used inappropriately, he or she can be held responsible. The district IT department is able to review all website, email, and google chat activity. It is important that students and families are aware of this.
•Please set up a Chromebook charging station at home to ensure a fully charged Chromebook is brought to school each day. All chargers need to remain at home. Be aware that it is a $20 fee if your child looses his or her charger.
•Celebrate that we are incredibly lucky to have a 1:1 technology program in Beaverton!
VERY IMPORTANT: Please make sure that you have paid your $20 Insurance Fee. If something happens to your child's Chromebook, and you have not paid your $20 Insurance Fee, you are responsible for the full cost of replacing or repairing the Chromebook.
Meadow Park's 7th & 8th Grade Bands SHINE at Beaverton's Celebration Parade
WOW! What a great way to start off the year. Our marching band participated in the Beaverton Celebration Parade and made a wonderful showing. We had approximately 120 students make it and the sound they created was MASSIVE! Many people along the route made comments saying we sounded better than some high school bands. Thank you to our parents for volunteering and getting your child to and from school for practices and the actual event - you are the reason behind our success!
To all 6th & 7th grade parents of children currently not in enrolled in band... Band is just getting started and it is not too late to get your child enrolled in 6th & 7th grade beginning band. Our students, parents and community support have created one of the top band programs in the state. Yes, it is a lot of work, but the payoff in the end is the love and support of a family you and your child get to build and create. These kids learn how to teach themselves, run class or sectionals, and have fun working. They perform in concerts at school and away, they march in parades, and they compete in festivals. We also bring in professional musicians to work with our students on a regular basis. Please contact me if you have any questions. - Mike Schlabach
