Blanchard HS Band
August 2014 Newsletter
Welcome to our new format!
We've found a cool new way to make newsletters and make them even more useful and interactive. Links will take you from here right to where you need to be, and we are able to put tons of pictures in as well! Let us know your thoughts, and please let us know if you have any trouble accessing these. Thanks! Ms. Kauffman & Ms. Shepherd
Thank you all!!
We had an incredible summer band that concluded with an awesome Parent Performance. Thank you to all the parents who got your student to school in the afternoon, picked them up late at night, and then came out in full force for the parent performance which was a huge success! We appreciate all that you do for our band!
Another shout out to all of the incredible parents who came out and worked our uniform checkout! Thank you for dedicating a small amount of time to help get our students into their uniforms for the year. This is a large task and it's only possible with you! We are grateful for your generosity.

Band pictures
Students need to be at the football field in their under uniform clothes by 4:45pm on FRIDAY, August 29th for band pictures (this has changed from the original info). Students will take a full band pictures as well as individual and buddy/group pictures. There is no obligation to buy, but please fill out the photo forms when they're sent home so if you or a relative wants photos later it's a simple process.
Football begins in September
Please make sure you've looked on Charms at the band calendar (there is a page in the itineraries folder that has ALL away game info) and know the schedules for the away games. Our first game is in Tuttle on Friday, September 5th. This is where we start making memories! We will perform our first halftime show at Tuttle...the first for the freshmen and the first of the "lasts" for our seniors. It's a close game, so be there!
Background checks for volunteers
Please remember that if you didn't fill out your form with Brenda at uniform checkout and show her your social security card and driver's license, you'll need to get that done prior to volunteering. The cost of the background check is $12.50 and is required if you want to work directly with our students. For more information, contact Brenda at breardon@blanchard.k12.ok.us
Moore Outdoor Music Festival
Our first contest happens just up the road in Moore on Saturday, September 20th. It is always a great day and we definitely would like to have you there! We'll be sending out more information once the band has a scheduled performance time, but plan on spending that Saturday tailgating with us and cheering on the band as they compete for the first time!
Our 3 words to live by are...
Our Leadership Council (aka the LC) does an outstanding job during summer band coordinating and leading all of our team building activities and competitions. Each year has been great, but these student leaders have already gone above and beyond anything we expected. We have a special group of students leading our band! This year the LC had the students make a list of words that described and defined our band and then vote on their top choices. It was a great list but they had to narrow it down to 3 words. So the 3 words they felt defined our band this year are proud, dedicated, and family. So if you hear those words ring out at a game or a contest, you'll know we're pumping up to have a performance that goes beyond just music, but is forming bonds and memories that will last a lifetime.
How to get credit for your monthly newsletter grade! Due by Wednesday, August 27th!
The purpose of the monthly newsletter is to make sure that students and parents are all on the same page and know about all band activities. To get credit, a parent needs to send an email to Ms. Kauffman that has the following info: student name, grade, parent name, and that the newsletter has been read. This earns you 100%! If you don't have the ability to email, please have your student get a hard copy from a director and it can be signed and returned for the same grade.
Remember, newsletters are only accepted during the month of the newsletter. Once the month has passed, that newsletter can no longer be submitted.
"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." ~Leo Buscaglia
