Principal's Message
Elk Family,
We have had a great week back from the Holiday Break.
The student EXPERIENCE at Burleson High School is a special one and something that we strive to improve each and every day. One thing that we will be working on is increasing opportunities for student voice. Hearing from students about their ideas and solutions to some of the everyday issues that we face. These opportunities for student voice can be valuable in our continued effort for school improvement. Sometimes as adults we forget to just ask the children........"What do you think?" "Why do we do it this way?" "How can we make it better?" "How can we work together to change that?" " What is the solution to our problem?" These real-life skills learned from this practice produces students that are problem solvers that are solution driven. These skills build SUCCESS!!!
Here are the 3 areas of STUDENT VOICE that we are initiating at BHS for the Spring semester:
1. Student surveys about the learning experience in the classroom to the teacher
2. Student Focus Groups centered around BHS Campus Culture
3. ELKs Express : A link on our website where students can share ideas and solutions.
Here is the link:
We are excited about building upon the already great "Experience" that we have at BHS!!!
Thank you for your continued support!!!
Go ELKS!!

Counselor's Corner
With the semester completed, it seems like a good time to reflect on student successes, as well as, areas that need change. For most students, organization is crucial to their success. Being unorganized only increases a student’s chances of having zeros or lower grades, along with, impacting his or her self-esteem. The beginning of the semester is a great opportunity to pull everything out the backpacks and binders and get a fresh start in the New Year!
If you need additional resources to make a change or find some additional resources, check-out the counselor’s website. We have academic information, college planning, SAT & ACT testing dates, along with more important information.
We look forward to working with our students and families for the rest of the 2016-17 school year.
Advanced Academics and College & Career Readiness
I would like to take this time to introduce myself as the new College and Career Readiness Coordinator at BHS. My name is Julie Knight and I have had the privilege of being one of the Agriscience teachers and FFA Advisor for almost four years at BHS. As a Burleson High School graduate myself, it is an honor to be able to assist all students with their advanced academics and helping them prepare for college. I can be contacted at jknight@bisdmail.net or (817) 245-0060 if you have any questions concerning AVID, Pre-AP/AP, Dual Enrollment, or our GO Center.
