Today, Compass Charter Schools is closed in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day. It is a day dedicated to celebrating the history, culture, and impact of the Indigenous peoples of America.

CCS NEWS ~ Compass recently joined the Digital Learning Collaborative (DCL), which is a membership group made up of organizations including school districts, state agencies, non-profit organizations, and companies. Read our press release to learn more about the DLC.

K-8 SCHOOL NEWS
ELEMENTARY LEARNING LABS ~ This month our fourth graders will participate in a science unit on Earth's Atmosphere in their learning labs. Our elementary school teachers will host a Barometer and Anemometer STEM Challenge too! Check out our Elementary Learning Lab Schedule to join the fun!
GLOBAL READ ALOUD ~ Our elementary school scholars will participate in the Global Read Aloud (GRA). GRA was created with a simple goal in mind: one book to connect the world. We will pick a book to read aloud to our scholars during a six-week period and during that time, we will make as many global connections as possible. Join Ms. Villegas in her Reading Rockstars Learning Labs through the next six weeks to participate. We will utilize Flipgrid to connect with Compass scholars and other scholars around the world!
MISS. D’S SUCCESS TIP OF THE WEEK ~ Talk about growth mindset and goal setting with your scholars daily! Our ultimate goal is to help scholars become self-driven learners. We encourage our learning coaches to talk with their scholars about growth mindset and help them create goals for each of their classes. Looking for some guidance to have these conversations? Contact your scholar’s homeroom or content teacher and they will be happy to assist you!
ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
GRADE BOOK ~ Our high school scholars and learning coaches are invited to join Mrs. Smith, High School Coordinator, for a short training called Navigating Your Grade Book this Friday, October 12 at 9 am. Families will learn about the important information they can find by simply looking at their scholar’s grade book. We’ll see you there!
SCIENCE WET LABS ~ We held our first a-g science wet lab last Friday, October 5 in Lake Elsinore. Our inquisitive scholars completed all of the required lab experiments for their science courses this semester with the help of their teachers, Mr. Spink, and Mrs. Woodley. We can’t wait to see the rest of our scholars who are enrolled in biology, chemistry, and/or physical science attend our upcoming science labs! We will share lab dates and locations later this week.
COUNSELING SERVICES
FEATURED COUNSELING SERVICES PRESENTATIONS
Middle school scholars are encouraged to join our workshop, "Virtual Bullying & Safety," next Tuesday, October 16 at 12 pm. The workshop will discuss safety when navigating the ever-changing world of social media and digital tools, and how our use of them will create a permanent digital carbon footprint that will affect us for the rest of our lives. High school scholars are invited to join our workshop, “Financial Aid FAFSA Basics,” next Wednesday, October 17 at 12 pm. The presentation will help scholars understand the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Any scholar planning to apply to a community college or 4-year college/university is encouraged to attend this valuable presentation. RSVP here.
Our eleventh-grade scholars are invited to join our important presentation, High School Junior (11th Grade) Presentation, next Thursday, October 18 at 12 pm. The presentation will provide critical information and support to scholars in an effort to build a grade level foundation of knowledge from which they can develop and maintain strategies for success to utilize throughout their high school education, earn a high school diploma and beyond. WEEKLY COLLEGE SPOTLIGHT ~ This week is focused on the California State University (CSU) system. There are 23 CSU campuses in total, and this week we will spotlight three of them:- San Diego State University, Cal State Fullerton, and Fresno State.
