Reminders and Updates

Our field trip to the Parks-Bentley House is this TUESDAY. We are still missing a lot of permission slips. Please send them in tomorrow with $3.00.

We enjoyed our visit with the author, Brad Herzog. Order forms went home on Thursday if you would like to order one of his books.

MATH UPDATE

Believe it or not, but we are almost done with our unit on decimals! We will be finishing the remaining lessons this week and plan on giving the END MODULE TEST at the end of next week.

Science

Last week, we traveled through "Transfer of Energy" stations and explored how energy changes from one form to another. We saw Albert Einstein's theory that "Energy is neither created, nor destroyed. It is transferred from one form to another," in action.

Tomorrow we will be learning about simple machines and ending the week with a ball and ramp activity that demonstrates friction. In addition we will be practicing ALL of the measuring skills we have learned this year as a review before the NYS Science Test next week.

Giant Newton's Cradles Tricks and Lights ~ Incredible Science

Historical Fiction Book Clubs (Reader's Workshop)

With one book under our belts, most groups are already starting to read their second book or will be early this week. They are becoming experts on their time period and learning a ton.

You should be seeing their "Book in a Bag" come home EVERY night! In addition, please ask your child if they have Reader's Workshop HW. Many students have been forgetting to complete their homework.

Writer's Workshop

OUR REVOLUTIONARY BOOKS ARE DONE!! Tomorrow we will be gathering both classes and having a little celebration by sharing our final books with one another.

Our last unit is called "Literary Essays". We will be reading short stories and using close reading strategies to form our own themes and to evaluate characters.

Three Branches

This week we will be looking at the second part of the Constitution. This is the part of the document that explains the 3 branches of government. We will be taking a look at the 3 branches and finding out the job of each branch and who makes up each branch at the federal, state and local level. We are becoming government experts and are really looking forward to our trip to see a part of our local history on Tuesday morning when we visit the Parks-Bentley house!
