A Message From Coach Cindy on Swim Practice Social Distancing Protocols
Hi Quail Valley Swim families!
I hope this communication finds you and your family safe and well. We are living through an uncertain and confusing time. Now more than ever we need to find ways to safely integrate things we love back into our new normal. Swimming is a healthy activity that does not require direct contact between teammates or coaches and social distancing can be maintained throughout practice if carefully planned. There is NOTHING more important than the well-being of our swimmers, families, and coaches. Quail Valley Swim is committed to providing a safe environment to bring our swim family back together to have fun, reconnect, and grow as teammates and swimmers. We understand that not all Quail families are comfortable returning to swim practice at this time. We support your decision, will miss you very much, and look forward to your return in 2021! If you are planning to participate this summer, please read the protocols that will be in place to maintain the safety of our Quails and their families. Please email me at cindysommers4@gmail.com or text me at 803-422-7107 with any questions.
QV Swim Practice Social Distancing Protocols
Quails have always been committed to being kind, encouraging, supportive teammates. With this in mind, we know that swimmers, families, and coaches will remain committed to the safety of those around them by following the protocols listed below.
- Quails will be permitted to come on the pool deck 5 minutes before their scheduled practice. Those arriving early should remain in their cars until the appropriate time to enter.
- Quails should leave immediately at the completion of practices and competitions.
- All those on deck are expected to practice social distancing by remaining at least six feet apart from other individuals or family groups. Spectators must bring their own chairs.
- All doors to the bathhouse will be propped open to limit touching surfaces.
- Quails should arrive and depart in their suits instead of changing in the bathrooms.
- Restroom breaks will be limited to one person at a time. There can be no showers at any time. No Quails should be using the locker rooms for changing.
- When Quails arrive on deck they should remain with their family groups and await instructions from their coaches.
- Quails should bring filled personal water bottles. The use of the water fountain during practice is not advised; however, paper Dixie cups will be available per DHEC regulations.
- Quails should avoid physical contact with others, such as shaking hands or giving high fives and should not share food, drinks, or towels.
- No spitting of any kind will be allowed.
- Quails should stay home if they do not feel well.
In-water Safety Plan - Overview
During practice, all swimmers will be assigned home bases on the deck or in their lanes spaced at least 6 feet apart. They will return to their home bases after each swim. Equipment will not be used during practice this summer. All protocols will be modeled and practiced before swimmers get in the water.
Social distance protocol for dive in starts:
At each practice, Quails will be assigned a home base designated by a marking spot on the deck behind each lane. Swimmers will exit the pool, go to their home base, and place their foot on the spot after each swim.
Social distance protocol for in pool starts:
Quails are assigned a home base in their lane so that they are spaced at least 10 feet apart. Each home base is designated with a marker of a specific color that can be seen above and below the water so swimmers know they have reached their home base.
Of course, we are flying the plane as we are building it so we may realize changes have to be made as we move forward. We are happy to hear your suggestions. Also please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
