Hygiene Kit Drive
Carlisle Elementary PTA invites you to join the Plano Council of PTA in the 5th Annual Hygiene Kit Drive.
Did you know that 29% of all Plano ISD students are currently experiencing poverty?
When the physical needs of children are not met, they have difficulty learning and being successful in school. We can help these students.
In collaboration with other PISD schools, the goal is to complete 1,200 hygiene kits -full size kits to take home and travel kits for 5th grade Adventure Camp. With everyone’s participation, we can do this!
Our school counselor Melody Jones and nurse Judith Grace will have the opportunity to speak with the students on the importance of these items and how these necessities promote living in a healthy environment.
Donations from Carlisle students are available from now through Thursday, November 3rd. Students are encouraged to donate by grade level but other items listed below are welcome as well.
- Kindergarten—Hair Brushes/Combs and quart size Zip Lock bags
- First Grade—Deodorant and Toothbrush cases
- Second Grade—Toothpaste and Dental Floss
- Third Grade— Toothbrushes and gallon size Zip Lock bags
- Fourth Grade—Wash Cloths and gallon size Zip Lock bags
- Fifth Grade—Bar Soap and Shampoo
Donation Boxes are located in each grade level for collection. If you have any questions, please contact Joanne Stump at community@carlislepta.org.

Nurses' News
Reminder to parents of fifth grade students going to camp that it is never too early to drop off your child’s medications. You can bring them to school any day from 7 am to 3:45 pm. There will be an evening medication drop off on Thursday, November 3 from 5-7 pm. Please contact Miss Grace if those times are not convenient for you. It is required that parents drop off the medication and sign authorization forms in order for medications to be administered at camp. Please remember that we are unable to administer vitamins, homeopathic or herbal medicines and topical essential oils to your child. Please contact Miss Grace at 469-752-0609 if you have any questions.
Take a Taste Tuesday
The letter F offers only Figs and Fennel as options. Many thanks to Mrs. Lin who provided figs from her very own tree. Mrs. Champion’s class got to taste a few of those as well as our veggie of the week – Fennell. Fennel is a root vegetable in the carrot family. The bulb part of the fennel is the part that is edible but the stalks and fronds are sometimes used in cooking recipes too. Fennel is a good source of fiber, vitamins C and A as well as calcium, iron and magnesium. Miss Grace had to look up how to prepare fennel on YouTube because she has never eaten it either! Fennel tastes like a hint of licorice. It is a crispy, flavorful addition to salads, soups and stews. Mrs. Champion’s class gives fennel 2 thumbs up. About 80% of the students said they wouldn’t mind if it was in a salad or cooked into some other recipe. Some of us agree it looks like an alien like form. Add fennel to your shopping list this week – caution – I only found Fennel at Sprouts!
Friendly Reminders -
Our children are hard at work in the classrooms and busy every moment. Please remember that the school day continues until dismissal. Students who leave early lose valuable instruction time. Please limit early pick up to the occasional doctor appointment.
The school front doors open at 7:00 a.m. Students must arrive before 7:45 a.m. as classroom instruction begins promptly. Student pick up is at 2:45 p.m. Please make sure your child knows their plans on how they are getting home. If your child has a change in departure plans, please notify the office BEFORE 2:00 p.m. to insure your child receives the message. Notes are picked up from the bins at 2:15. Also, if it is necessary to pick your child up from school early, please arrive before 2:30. No student will be called down after 2:30 for early dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation.
The front office opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 3:30 p.m. each day. Entrance into the building after 3:30 will not be permitted unless you have an appointment.
Remember: We DO NOT wear Halloween costumes to school. Additionally, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture, candy is an FMNV (food of minimal nutritional value), and should not be distributed during the school day.
We would love for you to volunteer at Carlisle. Please go to www.pisd.edu and click on “Volunteer Applications” and follow the instructions provided on that page. If you were a volunteer last year, you must renew your application. All current background checks were purged on July 1st. Remember, you will not be able to volunteer in your child’s class or attend field trips until this process is complete.
Carlisle has partnered with School Spirit Vending to provide positive pencils and stickers for students to purchase for .50 cents an item. The machine takes quarters only and is available for student use either before school or after school.
Shoparoo - Please help us earn money for our school by downloading the free Shoparoo App on your smart phone and snapping a picture of your grocery receipts. It’s really that easy! For more information, please visit www.shoparoo.com.
