A Word From Mrs. Loor
We had a great week celebrating Read Across America! We had our first Vocabulary Parade where students chose a word to dress up as. I loved seeing all of our creativity on display with the book character potato gallery. We had a slew of guest readers from PTO board members and high school students to the mayor, police chief and police captain! We closed up our week with a schoolwide read aloud and D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) time. Books are our gateway to places and worlds unknowns and into new stories and experiences that broaden our hearts and minds. A big thank you to Mrs. Mills for coordinating this fun-filled week for us!
We are so lucky to have such a wonderful PTO and their generosity just funded additional recess equipment for us. We are excited for when it all arrives so that students have more options out on the field and on the blacktop. Pictures to come!
Have a fantastic week!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

TEAM UP FOR HEALTHY EATING!
Did you know that Franklin Elementary School is a USDA Team Nutrition School? As a “team,” Franklin School is working towards healthier school nutrition and snacking.
Team Franklin needs your help! Please be mindful of the student snack choices that are sent in on a daily basis. Many students are bringing candy and other unhealthy snacks to be consumed both in the classroom and lunchroom.
Snacks of minimal nutritional value, those that are high in sugar and fat and those with empty calories (i.e. candy, cookies, gushers, chips, sugary drinks etc.) are all foods of minimal nutritional value, and are not in keeping with our District Nutrition Policy #8505.
In addition, many candies contain nuts, or are processed in a plant with nuts, and put students with nut allergies at risk for exposure.
Fruits and vegetables, low fat yogurts and cheeses, hummus, popcorn, low sugar snack bars, and whole grain crackers are great alternatives and help establish healthy eating habits.
For health-related questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Zanelli, our school nurse. Her email is azanelli@summit.k12.nj.us. You can also visit the Summit Public Schools Virtual Health Office for additional information.
