Jason Chin Enthralls Readers, Writers, and Artists with his Books

Thank you PTA!

Canyon Ridge students of all ages enjoyed a special visit with author & illustrator Jason Chin on January 28. Mr. Chin shared the writing and illustrating process with students. Students sat spellbound as he drew freehand in front of them. Third, fourth and fifth grade students learned about the research process as they followed Mr. Chin on his visit to the Galapagos Islands in preparation for his new book.

3rd Grade Students Research the Forces of Nature

What could be more fascinating than learning about the destructive forces of nature - like earthquakes, tsunamis, and tornados? What if we make the process paperless? What if we let you create a comic strip to teach your friends what you have learned? Research is fun!

Have you Read a Great Book?

3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Students Vote in Record Numbers!

Students were challenged to read at least 5 of the Texas Bluebonnet Books this fall. We doubled our voters from the previous 5 years - way to go Coyotes! All Bluebonnet readers were added to our Lego wall with their very own minifigure and added a brick for every book they read.

The winning book at Canyon Ridge was Salem Hyde: Spelling Trouble.

Now we eagerly await the announcement of the statewide winner.

You can check here for results.

Texas 2x2 Books are Perfect for Readers Age 2 - 2nd Grade

Our younger students have anxiously been waiting for their turn to add a Lego minifigure to our reading wall. Our W.I.G. (Wildly Important Goal) for the library is for every student to be involved in a reading program with the library - Texas 2x2 is a wonderful opportunity for our younger readers to experience new books written especially for their age level.

First Graders Experience the Colonial Times

First Grade students will spend the month of February making inquiries about the past. Students have created their own timelines and explored the past of their teachers too. Do you know what your teacher did for recreation when she was in first grade? What about the type of communication and transportation she used?

Next we will go further back into the past, to the Colonial Times at the beginning of our country. Students will read about what schools were like 270 years ago. Then we will get to experience the Colonial Times through games, toys, and learning activities that children played with long ago. Wouldn't you like to join us?

2nd Grade Fairy Tale Fans

Our 2nd grade students have been reading their way through a variety of classic fairy tales plus a few fractured ones as well. Students are getting ready for a little friendly competition, called the Fairy Tale Battle. Each class will be represented by a team of four students who have shown that they are tops in Fairy Tale trivia! All students are invited to take part in the fun by wearing a costume from their favorite character - homemade costumes encouraged!

Feel free to join us for the Fun on Friday, February 26 @ 1:30 p.m.
