Welcome Franklin
Questionable Choices
Can you believe we are just one short week away from Fall break?!
We hope that you will use this time to rest and recharge doing all of the things that bring you joy hopefully including catching up on some much-needed sleep.
In a world of 12-hour workdays, raising teenagers, teaching at the U of U, and the extensive time commitments of football (AKA Greenbay Packers season), I could think of nothing more reasonable and wise than to get a new puppy.
So in the spirit of bad decisions that rivel my AquaNet-glued 80's bangs and the purchase of a teal blue Chevy Cavalier with fluorescent pink pinstriping...I have found myself hypnotized by the chocolate-brown eyes and curly, cloudy soft black hair of a puppy named Frank or Franklin D. Roosevelt when he is making decisions that warrant the use of his full name.
Patriots...the Summers have adopted a lot of adult dogs over our 23-year marriage, but only one of those dogs was a puppy, and we have had a 21-year gap in the joys and commitments of raising a puppy. Franklin is a mix between St. Bernese (St. Bernard/Bernese Mountain Dog) and a Golden Doodle (Golden Retriever/Poodle), which is a deadly mix of wicked smart, 1/9th naughty, and perfectly precious.
Getting a new puppy got me thinking about making commitments and the dedication that it often takes to see a commitment through as promised. For some of you, that means heading to sports practice and games right after school, then coming home to complete your homework and chores, and then going to bed to do it all over again the next day.
For some of you, it means trying out for a part in a play or preparing for a concert, which means you commit to memorizing music and lines and agree to spend hours after school and even weekends rehearsing for the big show.
For others, it looks like committing to taking classes that are just a step above the rigor you are accustomed too, and the time commitment to complete the class with the grades you want. It often means that the A's and B's that were once easy, may now look like C's, but you committed to stretching, and with stretching we see growth.
As we head into the end of this first quarter, I challenge us all to stay "All In" with whatever endeavors we have committed to. I encourage you to be willing to do and try hard things that get you out of your comfort zone and force you to question your goals and decisions (decisions like getting a puppy at the ripe old age of 42). When things get hard, dig in and do the work, because I promise you, there is absolutely nothing you can not achieve when you are willing to put in the work.
This week as you see Mrs. Summers trying to keep her eyes open from being up all night with Mr. Franklin, maybe offer a high five, or give me a shout-out that just like you guys, I can do hard things.
Get ready for an overload of Franklin stories and pictures, and if I am feeling extra brave,
he may even stop by to say hello to all of his favorite Patriots.
As always Patriots...
You are loved!

Help Us Move The Lunch Line Faster
Dear Friends,
We have discovered that when we are serving lunch. Our lunch lines are moving slower than a sloth in the middle of winter stuck in ice. We are working to improve our timing and noticed that most of our students are not using their student ID's or PBIS cards. This is making us ask students two or three times for their lunch numbers which is causing our lines to take twice as long as they should. When most of the students use their cards, our wait time for lunch is only 5-7 min long. Which allows them about 20-25 minutes to eat and socialize.
We are asking if you would please speak with your students and help them remember to bring their cards to school each day. Please explain why it's so important for them to have them. I want to give each and every student ample time to eat and socialize with their friends since lunchtime is really the only time of day they have during school to do this.
Due to our staffing shortage, we have been forced to close the Snack Shack for the time being. As soon as we can fill our open position we will be able to reopen the snack shack.
We are hoping we can fill this position soon.
