Bazillion Book Drive

Trussville FUMC and other local churches in the North Alabama Conference are teaming up for the Bazillion Book Drive, a NAC initiative to put books in the hands of children birth through 3rd grade living in under-resourced communities.

Statistics show that children not reading by 3rd grade have little chance graduating from high school. In under-resourced communities 80% of children are not reading at grade level! The Bazillion Book Drive initiative wants to help change the lives of these kids.

Our church will be collecting NEW children's books now and throughout May. Look for the collection bin in front of John Wesley. Book by book we can make a difference.

Deep Sea Discovery: July 17-21

In Deep Sea Discovery, kids will get to know God is always with them, explore God’s presence in their lives, and serve God by serving others. Through Deep Sea Discovery, kids will grasp that God is with them wherever they go! Hands-on service projects, games, and sea science will help kids experience a VBS adventure like no other, and they’ll leave each day ready to set sail to serve others and tell God’s story.VBS begins at 5:30 nightly with a Snack Supper and ends at 8 pm. Open to children entering 4k-5th grade. WE ALSO NEED VOLUNTEERS.

Children that have completed kindergarten-second grade go to day camp Monday, June 13th -Friday, June 17th. The church will provide transportation to and from each day. Typically we take about 35 children to/from daily for an awesome experience. Friends are welcome to join us. Each year, the church budgets for its families to receive funds to help pay for Sumatanga. Day campers receive $50 towards their cost of camp ($125). Scholarships are available.

Overnight camp is for those children that have completed third-fifth grade. Parents will take their children to camp on Sunday, June 12th and pick them up on Friday, June 17th. Each year, the church budgets for its families to receive funds to help pay for Sumatanga. Overnight campers receive $150 towards their cost of camp; a tiered fee schedule is attached with the application. The tier payment schedule allows parents to choose what works best for them by paying the week camp fee ranging from $370 per camper to $450. Children get the same experience no matter which option the parent chooses. For more information or questions about the fee please email Jamie at Sumatanga, registrar@sumatanga.org. Scholarships are available.
