Weekly Academics
Reading Street:
•Question of the Week; “What are different ways of going places?”
•Amazing words: subway, sidecar, jetway, plane, tunnel and ferryboat
•We recognized and named uppercase and lowercase letter: Jj, Ww, Ee, Gg, Ll, Hh, Oo, Dd, Kk, Rr, Ii, Mm, Cc, Pp, Tt, Ss, Bb. Nn and Aa
•Identified words with initial /j/ and /w/ like jet and web
•Pronouns: We were formally introduced to I and me but have discussed he, she, we and they.
•Questions: The students practiced writing, asking and answering questions. We took part in a Q&A where the students were able to ask the teacher a question! I loved hearing their creative questions.
•High- frequency words: I, am, the, little, to, a, have, is, we, like, me, he, for, me, she, with, see, look, they, you, of, that, are, do, one, two, three, four, five, here, go, from, yellow, green and blue
•Used our “rubber bands” to help sound out various CVC words
•Some of our favorite books that we read are Max Takes the Train, Charlie the Caterpillar, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Chick Life Cycle
*This week we learned about different forms of transportation. Share a story with your child about a place you went to and the form of transportation you used to get there.*

•Position and location of shapes

Social Studies/Science:
•We visited Mrs. Kahn’s class and observed chick eggs in an incubator. We are patiently waiting the arrival of our chicks but in the meantime, we had the opportunity to learn about caterpillars. We visited the Science room and observed our very own caterpillars.
•We will begin our Seed to Plant Unit next week!
SEL: We continue to sit as a class and place ourselves somewhere on the Mood Meter. We began learning about the word “worried” and identified times when we felt a little bit worried.

Reminders and Events
On Friday, May 20th students will be dismissed at 11:30am. Orientation for the incoming Kindergartners will take place once our current students are dismissed.
-Friday, May 27th at 2:00: One family member for each child is invited to celebrate at our “Special Person” party! Please bring ID at arrival!
The students will be outside for recess each day weather permitting. Teachers can not apply sunscreen or help your child apply sunscreen. Please apply sunscreen to your child prior to school. It is getting warm out!!
