Message from the Principal
The theme of this year’s graduation seemed to be the chapter of our lives; just about every speech referred, in some form, to chapters. One chapter closes and another begins and so this is the case for three of our colleagues; Diane Perez, Bob Jackson and Becca Mahoney who will begin a new chapter in their lives. All three have spent countless hours influencing students on our campus as well as beyond the classroom walls. They have poured their hearts and souls into making a difference by not only encouraging students to excel in their field but also to be good citizens, and encouraging them to give back to the community. In the words of Henry Adam’s, “They have affected eternity, and they can never tell where their influence stops.” All three of them will be greatly missed but we know that they, like us, have to keep moving forward”. Hopefully, in one way or another they keep their connections to LWIT/LWTHS. Make sure to stop by the end of year celebration on Thursday 6/4 at 11:30 a.m. and wish them well. The food for the event is being catered by Tacos and Tequila.
As the 2014-2015 school year comes to a close, I hope that we take time to reflect upon all that has been accomplished this past year. In addition to all that has already happened, last week we had two successful graduations and we also received news that Anne Genovese's students took 1st place (Veronica Ramon and Alejandra Valdez), second place (Christelle Garcon and Sayra Rendon), and third place (Sara Krist and Amanda Museli) in the Southwest Florida Career Exploration Contest. Check out their videos at the CareerSource of SW Florida website.
Also, LWIT Teachers your hard work in encouraging students to take industry certifications and in ensuring information is being forwarded to Amanda Vazquez in a timely manner, has paid off; on Thursday, 5/28, Collier County received $138,000 for post-secondary industry certification funding from the State; LWIT earned $118,000 and iTech earned $20,000. You should be proud!
Collectively we have much to be proud of this school year. Please take time to celebrate your accomplishments and if you are off for the summer take time to reflect on your accomplishments, relax, and re-energize. I will leave you with the Wordle which was used to kick off the 2014-2015 school year. It is a collection of what you were looking forward to; I hope the 2014-2015 school year proved to be that and much more.
Tech Corner
Instructional Strategy - Organizing Students to Practice and Deepen Knowledge (Marzano element #15), takes advantage of bridging the gap between whole-group instruction to individual independent practice. Cooperative learning groups are often purposefully formed for a variety of reasons, i.e., heterogeneous or homogeneous skill level, but other times, you may want to use randomly formed groups. If so, there are a number of random team generators on the web - just copy and paste your class roster in the appropriate space and click ‘create’! Try Random Lists, Random Team Generator, or Random Group Creator.
Tech Tool Tuesday presentations and opportunities are still housed in the Professional Learning page of the LW wiki. Feel free to access during the summer and send your completed assignments to Marie for MIPs. If you are here during the summer session, an email/calendar invitation for weekly tech sessions will be sent starting the week of June 8th. If you are not here during summer but want to be included on the invitation list, please let Marie know!
