Miss Lotter's Leaders

Parent Newsletter May 9-May 13

Well, it has been another wonderful week in fourth grade! The kids are doing an amazing job of maintaining their stamina as we inch closer to the end of the year. Please continue to support your child by encouraging them to do their best in class and on the upcoming tests. Thank you for all that you do, and please read more about the end of our year below!

Math: In math this week, we will be continuing our short units on measurement, data, and geometry.

Language Arts: We will continue accountability in daily five this week! Each day, the students will track their choices and what they accomplished during each round. Students will have the option to listen to reading, read to self, work on words, and work on writing.

-We will be focusing on academic and unknown vocabulary. In preparation for the EOGs, we are going to hit vocabulary strategy lessons hard so that the kids are more than prepared!

In writing, we will be finishing up our jackdaw book projects!

Science: In science, we will be continuing our unit on fossils!

Our EOG tests will be May 25 (Math) and May 26 (Reading). The countdown is 7 school days! These tests are very important, and it is necessary for the kids to know that, but we do not want them to stress out for the remainder of the year because of it. We will be working hard in class to continue to prepare them for these tests, but additional support at home would be very helpful! You can support your child by helping them with their homework, specifically with math processes and justifications and the comprehension questions and justifications with reading. Also, by helping them keep a positive and growth mindset. If the students stay positive, try their best, and work towards growth, then they will do an awesome job! I have linked two videos below of Kid President. This kid is an AMAZING example of what it means to be positive, optimistic, and growth oriented. Please watch these videos with your child and talk about what lessons we can learn from his actions and words!

As we get closer to the end of the fourth grade, I have started thinking about how I would like to tie this year up with the kids. We are going to do a variety of small things in class, but I wanted to do one big "special event" for the kids to remember. My plan is to do an awards ceremony in class, and a silent auction with the kiddos. All year the students have been earning tickets or points for their great behavior and leadership. Many students still have a ton of points left over that they did not use on coupons throughout the year. In order for them to get to spend these points, we are going to have a silent auction on various items the last week of school. That being said, WE NEED VARIOUS ITEMS!!! I have a collection of random things for the kids to bid on, but we would greatly appreciate some more items! This could be anything such as toys, books, stuffed animals, puzzles, notepads, markers, etc. Please do not feel the need to go out and buy anything, but if you have some things laying around the house that you aren't going to use anymore, then we will graciously accept them for our auction. After the silent auction, we will have an awards ceremony where the students will enjoy small treats as we celebrate each individual student with an award and a gift. I am really looking forward to this day, so any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

Our last book fair of the year is next Monday through Wednesday! They still need some parent volunteers to run it, so if you are available, please sign up using the link below. Thank you!

-We need class snack (Preferably something already in individual portions)

-We could also use notebook paper and folders.

-As always, the most support we need is for you to continue to encourage your child to come to school and try their best! Also, to really help them in becoming a leader through emphasizing those leadership habits whenever possible.
