CFHS Counseling May Update
Check out this important information!
Class of 2019 Senior Information
The CFHS Counselors are meeting with ALL seniors this week for exit interviews. At this time, students share their post-secondary plans and request where to send their final transcripts. The Counseling office will send out FINAL TRANSCRIPTS by JUNE 13th. One final transcript is free of charge. If you decide to attend a different school than requested, please call 553-2515 or 553-2501 to let us know of the change.
Seniors who took Hawkeye Concurrent classes or PSEO classes during high school need to request their transcripts to be sent to the college they are attending (if not Hawkeye or UNI). Please see the information below to order a Hawkeye and/or UNI transcript to be sent to the college you are attending. If you had a 2nd-semester class, please confirm it is on the transcript.
If students still need help with future plans or need help completing the FAFSA, please visit with their school counselor!! Graduation information can also be found HERE! Students must have their Commencement Participation Agreement signed with student and parent signature to be able to pick up their caps & gown! Please check out more information on the SENIOR EXIT INTERVIEW.
HAWKEYE COMMUNITY COLLEGE CONCURRENT REGISTRATION ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 8TH in CFHS LIBRARY!
ALL JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES WHO SIGNED UP TO TAKE HAWKEYE COMMUNITY COLLEGE CONCURRENT CLASSES DURING THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR WILL BE REGISTERING FOR THOSE CLASSES ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 8TH!!
Check your Xello Course Planner if you need to check what classes you signed up for next year. If the class has an HCC in front of the title, it is a Hawkeye Concurrent class.
Please be prepared on Wednesday, May 8th.
Students will need to have their Social Security number to register for classes. This is an excellent opportunity to talk about how students need to keep their SSN’s as confidential as possible. If students do not have their SSN, they are not able to register.
Students will receive a pass and will need to report to the library during their assigned time. If a student cannot attend during the hour they are scheduled, they will need to come a different hour. Students must attend one of the sessions. Registration will NOT take the whole hour, and attendance is required.
Students will need their Google Chromebook to register online. Please have it charged and ready to go!
- Taking college classes in high school is a wonderful opportunity for students to prepare them for the next step. However, it is also very critical to understand that students are beginning their college transcripts. Low or failing grades in concurrent classes could result in being placed on academic probation when a student starts college. Being placed on academic probation can affect financial aid. Please make sure students are prepared to do well in concurrent classes.
- Cedar Falls High School offers several concurrent classes. Because of a partnership with Hawkeye Community College, students may enroll in college-level courses taught during the regular school day at CFHS. Upon successful completion of the course, students will earn both high school and college credit. Students are responsible for verification of credit acceptance at the post-secondary institution they attend. The website www.transferiniowa.org may be a helpful resource in determining transfer credits at the three Iowa Regents Universities and the Community Colleges. Colleges vary in what they accept from concurrent classes.
- Please check out the What are Concurrent Classes section on the CFHS Counseling webpage. This page includes information and prerequisites for the concurrent classes. Students MUST have Accuplacer or ACT scores that meet prerequisites to register for certain concurrent classes (Comp I, Statistics, Introduction to Computers). Students will not be allowed to register for these classes if they do not have the cut score.
- Please contact the CFHS Counseling Office if you have questions. Failure to register and have the required test scores may result in students dropping the class. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
