SARANAC LAKE HIGH SCHOOL
December 2019 Newsletter
Hello SLHS Families,
I hope everyone had an opportunity to spend some time with family and friends during the Thanksgiving Holiday. We had our first quarter parent conferences on November 25th & 26th and want to thank all the parents for taking time out of your schedules to attend the conferences. We had a good turnout and appreciate the interest in your child’s education.
Events/ Activities @ SLHS
The SLHS Boy's Cross Country team are again, NYSPHSAA STATE CHAMPS! They also placed third at NYS Federation Championships. Congrats on an amazing season! Currently, our winter athletic programs are in full swing, which include Alpine Skiing, Basketball, Hockey, Indoor Track and Nordic Skiing. Please check their schedules on the Athletic website (athletics.slcs.org).
We had our 2nd quarter assembly on Friday, November 15th. We celebrated all the amazing things that went on at SLHS for the 1st quarter...Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll, Fall Sports Teams, etc. We also discussed and reminded our students about: new courses, prior notices, lates, absences, seat time and academic probation. At the end of the assembly, I showed this six minute video. It's a good one. Click HERE to view it.
26 students who were inducted into the Saranac Lake High School National Honor Society on November 19th. Congrats to Reuben Bernstein, James Catania, Dellice Chase, Helena Dramm, Lily Ervin, Jamie Everritt, Andrew Fogarty, Peter Fogarty, Maggie Goff, Adrian Hayden, Tucker Jakobe, Lea Kidd, Kailey Kipping, Sylvie Linck, Bryson Mariano, Abby Martelle, Waytt Martin, Micah McCulley, Forrest Monroe, Tyler Newby, Camden Reiley, Sarah Samperi, Mecalyn Sousa, Simon Thill, Raechel Villani & Cedar Young.
The SLHS Music Department sent close to 60 students to the Area All State Festival at Franklin Academy on November 22nd & 23rd. Thank you Mr. Brad Varner, who called the steps for our week long unit of square dancing. This week is very popular and most or our students participate. The Key Club "Big Buddies" hosted elementary students from Bloomingdale & Petrova "Little Buddies" on Monday, November 25th. This is another great tradition with tons of participation.
The holiday season is here, which is often a busy and stressful time of the year, but is also an exciting time as we anticipate traditions and celebrations. The SLHS Music Department is having their Winter Concert on Monday, December 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. We look forward to seeing you all there. Students have also organized and hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive on December 18th in the Gym for students and staff. We are also having an Alumni Day for the Class of 2019 to come in on December 18th @ 11:00 for some pizza and tell us how things are going.
Our first quarter grades are available on the SchoolTool parent portal. If you don’t have access to the parent portal, please email your request along with your email address to Diana Schwartz at schwartdia@slcs.org. Please follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and our website. I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday season and safe journeys for all of your travels.
