Principally Speaking

ISTEP testing has been going along very smoothly. We will continue testing through May 6th. Comments from students and teachers have been positive with statements like, "That is the most prepared I have ever felt!" to "The students put forth a lot of effort!" Both of which make me very pleased. The teachers have worked incredibly hard to increase student confidence and experience in solving or answering the rigorous questions found on the new ISTEP+ assessment, and the students have muscled through the more challenging content to their betterment. I am confident that we will see a positive increase to our student achievement on the state exam this year.

Teacher Appreciation Week is going to be celebrated at DCMS on Wednesday, May 4th through Wednesday, May 11th. We hope you will join us in showing our teachers how much they mean to us. A simple way you can show your appreciation is to write a positive note or an encouraging email to a teacher. This type of communication does wonders for the educator's soul and can carry a teacher for years to come.

The last days of school will soon be approaching. On Monday, we will have only 19 school days left to work with your students. Please emphasize to your students that we will be learning all the way up until the last day of school. Lessons will be meaningful and will push students appropriately toward the next year's grade level. No more are the full days of movies or game days. I promise you the learning will be fun and engaging. We will have some short periods of time for yearbook signing on the last day of school.

Have a wonderful and restful weekend in preparation for our sprint to the end of the school year! As always, I am honored and thankful to serve you and your students as the principal of Danville Community Middle School.

Sincerely,

Marsha Webster

Principal
