Help Us Reimagine High School at Parent Forum this Thursday, May 24
Starting back in November, a group of teachers, parents and school leaders engaged in a Superintendent's High School Study with the purpose of exploring the need and range of possibilities for current and future high school program designs and learning spaces.
We have spent the year surveying current and past students, touring cutting-edge high schools throughout the Pacific Northwest, and consulting with high school program designers among other research.
Now we're looking for additional input, and invite you to help us further our understanding of what parents are hoping for as we educate their high school children. This is an opportunity to share with us what has worked and what we might consider for the future.
We are hosting a Re-imagining High School Parent Forum on Thursday, May 24 at the District Office (22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin) starting at 6 p.m. and you are invited. During the evening, parents will get a brief overview of the study, hear about Generation Z and how students today tell us they learn best, ask questions, and provide input on what you want to see in our high schools.
Budget Committee Approves 2018-19 Budget for School Board Review and Adoption
The West Linn-Wilsonville Budget Committee gave the proposed 2018-19 Budget its stamp of approval on Monday, May 14 during a public meeting. The proposed budget will now go to the WLWV School Board for final review and adoption at their June 11 meeting.
WLWV Business Manager Doug Middlestetter presented the 2018-19 budget during the meeting, sharing the outlook for 2018-19 as well as a tentative look at the following 2019-21 biennium. The proposed budget is based on a $8.2 billion State School Fund allocation to support K-12 school districts for the 2017-19 biennium. The district’s proposed general fund budget of $112,554,460 aligns with the District Goals, and allows the district to maintain current staffing for 2018-19 as well as add 8.0 FTE positions. The district also carries over approximately $8.7 million of its 2017-18 ending fund balance, as well as approximately $3 million in a PERS reserve fund.
The Budget Committee passed a resolution of approval, and will now present the proposed 2018-19 budget to the School Board for further discussion and adoption at their June 11 meeting. That meeting is slated for 6 p.m. at the District Office; 22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin.
