PLSD QUICK LINKS
Principal's Message
Another good week of school! Now that we are in the full swing of things help us remind our students to make good choices. We are really stressing Diley P.R.I.D.E. and what that looks like in school. P - Positivity; R - Responsible, I - Innovative, D - Driven, and E - Engaged. So far the majority of our students are doing a great job in showing Diley pride and being good role models for others. Help us reinforce this very positive message and culture at Diley! To go along with Diley Pride we also have our 7 mindset themes. We will have a quarterly incentive for our first themes.
PBIS Challenge: First Quarterly Incentive!!!
For each grading period, DMS plans to hold a quarterly theme and challenge. This quarter our theme is: “The Time is Now” and “100% Accountable”. This goes along with our 7 mindsets curriculum. Students will be asked to explain what accountable and driven mean to them. They will be challenged to think about how that can relate to school and life. During the first quarter, students will be able to earn the grade level extra recess with a DJ by meeting the following criteria:
No more than two missing assignments in each class
Having no more than one assigned ISS consequence
And no OSS consequences
We will have multiple chances to earn incentives throughout the year. Please continue to help us by working as a team and stressing positive behavior and actions at school! We believe we have the best students and school and we are trying to motivate our students to achieve more and be the best version of themselves. Keep encouraging our kids to keep trying and pushing through adversity and difficult times (I.E. - school work, conflicts, etc..). The more we can guide them to keep trying the more we will shift to a growth mindset and achieve more. Let’s Go Tigers!
NOTICE OF THERAPY DOG PROGRAM
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Diley Middle School will have the opportunity to provide some therapeutic work to our students and staff this year through the use of a therapy dog. The dog that will be coming into our building has been certified by a therapy dog licensing agency and has completed extensive training to provide support and service to individuals in a variety of settings, including schools.
Therapy Dog research reveals many positive effects as listed below:
Encouraging communication from students reluctant to speak in other situations
Facilitating practice of social skills and encouraging a safe environment for sharing
Helping people cope with grief and loss, illness, or disappointment in their life by creating a calming effect and helping reduce anxiety or stress responses
Raising endorphin levels in the body through stimulating these senses
Lowering blood pressure
The therapy dog will mainly be utilized through the counseling office in individual and/or small group settings with selective participants but there will be times that he/she will be available to visit a classroom for arranged academic and social learning support. While we want to offer opportunities for all the benefits that the therapy dogs can provide we also want to protect and uphold our policy toward the health and safety concerns of all of our students. We realize that some students have allergies or other concerns that we need to take into consideration while continuing to provide a safe environment for all. If your child has a medical or emotional issue that would prevent him/her from being near the therapy dog, please contact Heather Ferns at 614-830-2900.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child working with the therapy dogs, or any questions about the program in general, please feel free to contact Jenny Nihiser (jenny_nihiser@plsd.us).

A note from the nurse
In the event your child needs to take prescription medication while at school, please be sure to have the Request for administration of prescription medication by school personnel (pdf) form or completed by the child’s physician and parents. Forms are available in the school office and on the website.
Nonprescription medication such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and cough drops may be administered to students if the parent/guardian sends in the medication (in original container) along with written permission for the medication to be given. Dosages cannot exceed the manufacturer’s recommendations for age and weight. (i.e., We cannot administer medication to children under 12 if the label says: “Do not administer to children under 12, except under the direction of a physician.” We need to have a note from the doctor in order to give a dose of medication that is different than the dose stated on the bottle.)
