IXL- Pinpoint Levels by December 18

We have been mentioning to the kids about getting pinpoint levels on all students by Friday, December 18. In order to do this, students need to spend time in the Diagnostic section within the IXL program.

Please check to see if your child's stars are filled in. Filled-in stars show the program has narrowed down where the child's skills are at, in both Language Arts and Math. Pinpoint levels will allow us to see how much growth students have made since the beginning of the school year and allow the program to recommend skills the students need to work on next.

Below is our tutorial on how to find this information on the IXL App.

IXL Overview

December 18- Early Release

Our district calendar shows an Early Dismissal on Friday, December 18 leading up to Winter break. We will do our normal morning hours with students, but no activities will be done after release time (K-2 at 12:00 and 3-5 at 12:30).

Media Center Check-Out- 3rd-5th Can Now Check Out!!!

Students have always had the ability to check out E-books and Audiobooks in Destiny Discover which can be found in the Clever app. Click the link below to see a video on how to do that.

Something NEW..we want to try checking out books for students. 3rd-5th Grade students can put an actual physical book on hold and it will be checked out to them and available for them by Thursday in the vestibule!

IF a student wants a physical book they MUST put it on hold before Tuesday of the week they plan coming in to get it. Students will be sent an email on Wednesday, confirming that their book will be ready for pick up. If they do not get an email, the book is not ready and they will get an email the following week. Books will be placed on a cart in alphabetical order by student's last name. There will be sticky paper to indicate the name of the student on the spine of the book.

This is something new that we are trying so we are limiting checkout to one book per student and we are starting with 5th grade. Thank you for your patience. Please return books to the book bin in the vestibule of MES.

Please keep up with what is going on in the MES Media Center by following us on TWITTER @yourmediacenter

Staff Gifts

We've had several parents inquire about holiday gifts for our staff. There is no obligation to give any staff member a gift, however, we wanted to make sure we were able to answer any questions you have, which are addressed below.

Will Millburn emails accept electronic gift cards?

Yes. The filter will not block the gift card. In fact with the state of everything right now, this may be the safest way to be able to give a gift.

If I have a physical present that I want to give, can I bring it into the building?

Yes, we will have a table in the vestibule for gifts, should you want to drop one off. Please make sure it is clearly labeled with the staff member's name on it. Do keep in mind that this table is not supervised.

Will the staff member get the gift right away?

We cannot assure that this will happen. Not all staff members are in the building every day. So if you are dropping a present off, please make sure it is not something that will spoil, since we cannot ensure it is picked up immediately.
