Hawthorne Library Books
To find out what books your children have checked out, you can follow directions in this video to check their account. You need to know the student's CPS credentials (email address without "@cps.edu" and email password). If you believe books are lost (or damaged beyond repair), you should either purchase a replacement copy of the book, or submit payment for a replacement to be purchased. When buying a replacement copy, feel free to buy a used copy of the book, and please include a note to explain that it is a replacement (or send an email).

Summer Learning Challenge - children
Chicago is full of interesting buildings, parks, neighborhoods and people!
This year's Chicago Public Library Summer Learning Challenge is for children 0 - 13 and will explore science and art in the architecture around us. Kids can build their own stories in all kinds of ways, at the library, in the community or on their own. Earn a book bag by completing the following:
- Read: 500 minutes or more over the summer. Read books, magazines, comics, eBooks, audiobooks or anything else you want, for at least 20 minutes a day—all reading counts!
- Discover: Complete at least one hands-on activity. Try a library activity, do a Museum of Science and Industry Summer Brain Game or other STEAM activity or explore something new.
- Create: Make at least one creation. Make art, write a story or design something new.

Numbers
Books were renewed 174 times (which is much lower than last year's 491 renewals!)
Books had activity (checked out, returned, renewed) 11,653 times.
-- > That is a lot of books to put back on shelves! Thanks to HSA parents Simona Pop, Sophia Kim, and Christine Lee who were particularly helpful this year in keeping books in circulation.
Popularity
- The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris (25 times)
- Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney (20 times)
- You Go First by Erin Entrada Kelly (20 times)
-- since the library has only three copies each of The Magic Misfits and You Go First, that was a lot of turn-taking! (We own six copies of Cabin Fever.)
The most-checked-out nonfiction books this year were:
- Guinness World Records 2019 (37 times)
- Guinness World Records 2017 (14 times)
- Lesser Spotted Animals: The Coolest Creatures You've Never Heard Of (14 times)
-->Now you know - it is not just your child who lugs home the giant World Record Books
The most-checked-out graphic novels this year were:
- Smile by Raina Telgemeir (49 times)
- Real Friends by Shannon Hale (40 times)
- Kristy's Great Idea by Raina Telgemeier (39 times)
- Ghosts by Raina Telgemeir (37 times)
- Guts by Raina Telgemeir (31 times)
-->And you also know that graphic novels are clearly the most popular type of book and kids have not lost their love for Raina Telgemeier.
