Beginner's Guide to Oils

1) We talk about dilution and there are some reasons why we would dilute. If you have children, sensitive skin or elderly you want to dilute. Good rule of thumb is to look in
your product guide. If it says "N" do 1 drop oil to 1 drop carrier oil. If it says "S" do 1 drop oils to 2 drops carrier. If it says "D" do 1 drop oil to 3 drops carrier oil. (N=Neat, S=Sensitive, D=Dilute, these are also on doterratools.com)

2) If you want the most effective use of your oils make sure you are using them consistently. If you are feeling the blahs coming on... start using oils. The best way to use them is small amounts every 3-4 hours. If you are feeling a low immune system, using them often will make the biggest difference. Just 1 time won't be as helpful.

3) Having daily protocols is a great way to use oils. I use my favorite oils Balance, Frankincense, Peppermint and DigestZen on my body, Orange in my water, Peppermint and On Guard Beadlets, Lifelong Vitality Pack, PB Assist and Terrazyme... daily! Then one week a month I use Clary Calm and also other oils as needed. I constantly diffuse during the day in the living area and at night in each bedroom.

4) One tip that I have is to put your oils where you will need them and use them. For example put Lemon oil or Slim and Sassy where you get your water in the kitchen or Lavender and Frankincense on your nightstand for bedtime. You will use them more if you don't have to search for them. Carry them with you in your purse so you have them at all times.

5) If you put an oil on your skin and you don't like the sensation use a carrier oil like dōTERRA Fractionated Coconut oil or any other vegetable oil. Don't use water it will increase the sensation.

6) Diffusing oils is a great way to keep your family well... On Guard or Purify daily will help purify the air, and can be very energizing and uplifting.

7) When using oils in a roll-on bottle... generally fill up a roller 1/3 - 1/2 with oil, 1/2 - 2/3 with carrier oil. They are pretty forgiving so if you do a little more or a little less chances are, they will help to support your body.

8) You can apply oils pretty much anywhere. I love back of the neck, wrists and bottom of the feet. You can apply over the heart, the stomach or where you like them. Feet are a great place for those who are sensitive to smells like small children. A carrier oil will also reduce the intensity of the aroma.

9) Some oils will make your eyes water... avoid peppermint, Spearmint and Deep Blue near your eyes.

10) Peppermint is a driving oil. It's great to layer on top of another oil to drive it deeper.

12) When googling about oils and you read a blog, check for research, not just opinions! Pubmed is the best for real research. (But trust me, we all read blogs when we started and it freaked us out too! But then we started seeing through them and went right to the real research.)
