Rawson Elementary School's Interim Newsletter
Edition #4: Arrival, Dismissal, and Other Goodies!
Welcome to our Rawson Hybrid Chronicles, Edition #4. The Chronicle is dedicated to sharing information regarding:
- Arrival
- Dismissal
- Playground Drop Off and Pickup Locations
- Visitors and Volunteers
- Breakfast and Lunch Processes/Procedures
Arrival
Here at Rawson Elementary School we will be instituting a "soft start" to the school day. What this means is that as children arrive between 8:20 and 8:30 they will be admitted to the school through an assigned entrance and proceed directly to their class. This routine allows us to encourage physical distancing and discourage congregation of students and families on our playground before school.
Your child is assigned an entrance based on their classroom teacher assignment. Please review the image below for more information.
Due to the need for physical distancing, we will be using a staggered dismissal process. Students will use the same entrance for dismissal as they used for arrival. For example, if your child entered Door #10 for Mr. Gaynor's classroom this morning, your child will be dismissed through Door #10 at the scheduled dismissal time.
Our staggered dismissal schedule is as follows. Please identify your child's classroom teacher's name, door assignment, and dismissal time.
Due to the need for physical distancing, we are encouraging families to create a meeting location with their children. Our staggered dismissal time allows for older siblings to connect with younger siblings and proceed to their after school locations or meeting locations.
Please note, we do not encourage or promote dropping off or picking up children in the alley on the west side of the school. This is not school property and should be treated as any other public alleyway.
The safest place to drop children off in the morning is our supervised curbside drop off. This is located on Rawson Avenue between 14th Street and our driveway entrance. This area will be supervised from 8:20 - 8:30 a.m. each school day. This option gives you the ability to pull up to the curb, say your goodbyes, drop off the children, and pull right back out onto Rawson Avenue to proceed with your day.
Due to increased safety and security measures around COVID-19, we will not be admitting visitors to our school nor accepting any volunteers for the time being. For those of you with us last spring, you will remember a similar restriction implemented prior to our March school closure.
As a reminder, all persons on school property are required to wear an appropriate face mask. Thank you for your help and support in keeping us all safe!
Breakfast and Lunch Processes/Procedures
We will continue with our standard procedures of distributing and enjoying breakfast / nutrition break here at school each morning as well as lunch each day. If you choose to send your child a breakfast or lunch from home, please be aware of the packaging of items.
Packaging can sometimes be tricky for little fingers, so please pay special attention to items which children may need assistance opening. A bit of practice at home and/or repackaging may be warranted to keep the items in your child's hands only. Rest assured, our staff will still be at the ready to help with clean, sanitized, and/or gloved hands as needed.
We are working hard to implement a low to no touch approach to lunch distribution and package opening. Our Nutrition Services Department has develop a process and procedure which provides a safe environment for all food item distribution.
As a reminder, the Rawson Hybrid Chronicles is a five-part newsletter dedicated specifically to sharing important information with regard to our upcoming return to school in a hybrid format.
